cottage living and seasons question

How's farming gonna work when winter comes around? Curious
  • Thus far, we do not necessarily know, but if I had to guess similar to now. Some things will grow, some won't.
  • In The Sims 3 some plants went dormant. Unless there’s a greenhouse function going to be added? ? I don’t know ??‍♂️.
  • It's not perfect, but you can make your own greenhouse now. A lot of times I'll hoist a glass roof over a fenced area, and that usually provides enough shelter for growing things out of season.

I think that's the point of the new canning skill. Just like in real life, if you want to eat only local or things you've grown yourself, you have to preserve things during the growing season.
  • As it does currently, certain plants, crops go Dormant and Thrive in different seasons, some grow year round. Cottage Living's crops should be no different. You'll have A certain amount of time (However long your seasons last) to grow and harvest.

    example:
Strawberries are "In Season" in Spring, so My sims harvest Strawberry Vineyard throughout the Spring. Otherwise my sims must manage their limited stock of Strawberries until next Spring.

Grapes and Apples are "In Season" in Autumn/Fall. So My sims must harvest the Grape Vineyard and Apple Orchard before Fall ends, and once again my sims will have to manage their limited stock of Apples and Grapes until next fall.

Of course the game still allows you too cook/bake, without ingredients so it doesn't really matter.
but I choose to play this way, If my sims don't have apples, They cannot make apple pie, that simple.
  • The new set introduces a lot trait that means you can only cook with ingredients you have (or so I read) - or a challenge, I think, like having a Tiny Home.

I just build a very high clear roof for my lot by putting a 4 grid tall room, then copying it upstairs & repeat until I reach the
4th floor. I then delete the lower 3 floors. I put the round roof on top of the 4th floor, I delete the walls & select the clear roof swatch. I then raise the invisible floor as high as possible & stretch it as big as possible. Plus, I flatten the roof.
Using this technique, my sims has never had problems planting a garden regardless of the season, that is when it's not glitchy.
