Cottage Living: Wild Fox Protection

Now it shows a llama running the wild fox off in the trailer for Cottage Living. Now if the llamas from Cottage Living can chase the wild foxes away. Will the large dog that are pets from Cats & Dogs do the same? Will they be able to chase the wild foxes away?

SimsGuruRomeo has done confirmed that it's a real wild fox. Not a fox from Cats & Dogs.

    1) the Fox in Cats and Dogs is a Dog. (The raccoon is a cat)

    2) they've said that they added new animations and AI for the wild (non-pet) foxes in Cottage Living. And that yes, they will attack your hen house.

Now, if the new animations and AI are enough of an improvement, that still has to be seen. But they've at least put some effort into differentiating it from the one in Cats and Dogs.

oh, so then its a dog with the "agressive" trait, roger.

No, they cannot be added to your house hold or tamed. They are not the cats and dogs foxes. They are like Cottage Living bunnies and birds. Can be befriended but never a pet. They cannot be trained, but can be helpful in someway if befriended. Closest thing in game currently from my understanding is dolphins from Island Living but not.

I don't know if the wild foxes are like that of the dolphins from Sulani. But the birds and bunnies seem to be on that same befriended system.

I never said they are like the dolphins but they are the closest thing we have at this time. Foxes from Cottage Living are like dolphins in that you can befriend them and unlock useful interactions, yet they can never join your household, you need not take care of them as they are self sufficient. This is very unlike the animals in Cats and Dogs. Cottage Living foxes sound nothing like the foxes from Cats and Dogs other than looks..

We know bunnies and birds have houses you can put on your lot to have them hang around your lot more after you befriend them. They haven't said that about foxes to my knowledge just that can befriend them and they will help around the garden somehow. Maybe they too have houses, maybe not.

Your right though these new birds, bunnies and foxes are not like any animal currently in game and are on a new system we don't know much about. I can't wait to learn more how these new animals work both the wild birds, bunnies, and foxes, and the new tied to objects cows, lamas and chickens.

This is a good question and one I hope gurus will answer. If this pack will be interactive with other packs like it should be.

It is a good question. In the trailer, you see a llama chasing off a wild fox. So I thought that if a llama can do that. Then what about the herding dogs? People have been using herding dogs to guard the live stock against wild predators for centuries. So I thought it can be the same for in the game as well. It only makes sense because we have herding dogs in the game. Might as well put them to work.

Well, perhaps llamas will work as guarding dogs? Another reason to keep a llama if you keep chickens?

I seriously hope dogs and cats will react to wild animals, especially those not being befriended. Technically it should be possible to have the appearance of a wild animal trig a reaction from a dog, even if dogs are not reprogrammed to chase foxes. I'd be happy as long as a dog barks at the fox and the fox then leaves, but in RL the dog would most likely chase the fox off the lot.

Perhaps in TS4 wildlife is not tamed by chasing, but by befriending. So if the fox becomes a problem, you can solve it by befriending it? I'm not a big fan of this game turning into a "nice enough for toddlers to play", but anyway I like that the fox represents a danger, at some stage.
  • It was something that just popped into my head when I was looking at the screen shots from the trailer again. I was looking at the screen shots of the llama spitting at the wild foxes as it was sneaking up on the wild tan rabbit with brown sweater vest on from behind. Since the llama scared the fox off by spitting on it. I got to thinking, what about the large dogs C & D? Will they be able to scare foxes away if we have them as pets too?

They shouldn't attack chickens though because the foxes destroy everything and the chickens are completely helpless so they need to be protected.
Helpless? The trailer showed a chicken kicking a hapless sim's rear just for befriending some birds. They are not helpless. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the new deaths is death by chicken. Still chicken are fox food so they will need protecting. Just wondering how sims that chickens can beat up are supposed to do that. Foxes>chickens> sims>foxes in a fight makes no sense.

Yeah that's quite different from what happens in real life.
