Couple of Questions about Own Vets and/or Businesses

So I've never messed around with owning a business or running a restaurant, but with the Cats & Dogs pack, I figured I give running a vet a try. I have a few generic "manager" related questions.

  • Is there any way to send an employee home? (Not fire; I just mean let them leave work without my having to close the vet.)
  • Is there any reason not to promote an employee or delay promoting them other than the additional wage expense?
  • For the first two days, the "Bill Client" action was automatically performed after I treated the pet. On the third day, for all seven clients, I couldn't bill them and they wouldn't leave (so I could go onto the next one) unless I explicitly dismissed them. (This caused my rating to lower a level, too!) Anyone else experience this?

    • 1. No, you can fire them or let them stay.
      2. I often only promote every couple of skill levels they gain because there are only 5 levels of their job and not 10. This is personal preference.
      3. If your sim has an animal and that animal comes to work with them or is even on the same lot then it will glitch and you cannot bill the owner. I fixed this by bringing my vets husband to the lot and having him bill the owners. My sims cat had the free spirit trait and it wandered onto the vets lot and and I couldn't bill anyone. I do not know of any other solution besides closing, sending everyone home and starting the day over. If this isn't why your issue occurred, I don't have an answer. Hopefully someone does.

      1. I would have said, you can send them home early, but I see from @Andiratyme answer that has been changed :D . I liked that choice. we need that to return if they have removed it from the vet clinic. I suppose it's because doctors are more big shots, you just do not send a doctor home. :D
      2. Yes, Low performance, not working, lounging about. lots of reasons, One I have just will not wear their uniform. lol. I have not sent her home or said anything about it to her, That's the reason I do not know what would happen. she never works either so I guess I will just fire her.
      3. Lots of the time, they do not leave. When you click on the pet you get options, one is bill owner, also if you're quick enough, you can say nice pet, and then click on the owner and say bill owner. this should be auto billed as in restaurants. if you are worried about the bill click that first then click nice pet, be careful that they do not think you will examine them again, then your wasting your time.....I just go to the next pet that usually sends them out the door.
I do think the Vet clinic is more enjoyable than the other businesses, and the vets do try to help (mostly). but you can do a great job alone as well.
Retail has the worst employees. they do not truly try to help. But if you have a retail shop and want to work it alone, they will hire 3 employees for you.

    • 1. No you can’t send employees on breaks, or send them home early your only option is to close the store entirely.
      2. Promoting the employee will raise their satisfaction, but other than that there’s no reason to do it. It will increase your wages for sure, but it won’t necessarily make them work any harder than before.
      3. The action should auto complete at the end of the examination/surgery. If it doesn’t, and the game doesn’t allow you to click it I would make sure the examination is complete (clicking on the exam table will pop up examine if you have accepted a patient but not yet treated the illness). Sometimes exams can bug out and stop during the middle of the exam and the pet will get off the table. Usually this happens when the owner starts a convo with the vet working on the pet.
    • Well, the last question about not being able to bill the owner I think was just a game glitch. It only happened on that third game day and never since.

Also, it's a shame you can't set the work hours for your employees. It's also a shame you can't actually tell them what to do. For instance, when there are eight vomits on the floor, it would be super helpful to actually be able to tell the guy I hired specifically just to clean to, you know, clean! And it's not like he's a bad employee; it's just the shallow AI gets stuck sometimes like it does in other areas of the game.

      Anyway, thanks!!
    • You can select what jobs your workers have. You can have them just clean the clinic now. Disallow clients
    • You can't send them home but what you can do is click on the sign in Kiosks and disallow new customers!! I just figured this out today! So relieved that I can now finish the patients already in the clinic and not have to worry about more showing up! Definitely going to help a lot in boosting the employees' satisfaction with the job!
