Covert alien colonization when hybrid can't disguise?

https://i.imgur.com/aBArC2W.png

This is one of my two current families. Bailey (the mum) had cause to rescue Darin (the dad) during a Monsoon. Their daughter, Celeste just grew up into a toddler. o:)

Darin wears a disguise most of the time. He works as a scientist and my other active household contains one of his co-workers who would love to prove that aliens are 'real'. {Little does Bonnie know that her roommate is a childhood friend of Darin's and a Sixamite too. Bonnie is in the dark about both of them at this time...}
Bonnie lives in the apartment next door!

Celeste's blue skin wasn't too much as an infant. She was born at the hospital and I can imagine, perhaps, some hasty explanations and maybe an abrupt departure... but the secret is safe on the whole. Now that Celeste is a toddler and eventually when she goes to school, her skin tone is rather conspicuous. I want to be as sensitive as possible; I feel like Bailey simply loves her family and she accepted Darin's extraterrestrial heritage/origins a long time ago. She is one of the only ones that know though. Because I can't disguise Celeste, how do I go about this without upending my storyline?

  • So because she is only half-alien she can't disguise? I don't think I have any hybrids. But that is an interesting problem for your story. Maybe as a child she can disguise herself? Great back story by the way!

    No, hybrids can't disguise no matter what. My suggestion would be (storyline wise) to either pretend she doesn't go to school, get a mod that allows homeschooling, or clothe her in such a way as that most of her skin isn't visible. The last option is what I tend to do when I want a story for my occult-looking kids. It also ties in with what has already been said about them wanting to keep her identity secret.
  • The only other option would be to change her skin color but maybe give her other alien features, like eyes and oddly colored hair and slightly pointed ears? That's a tough conundrum.

    WOW!! :o
    Loaded up the game to have a play and see what solutions I might find. Suddenly even the dog turned blue. :D
    I know he is sick and will need to go to the vet, but I have never seen a blue dog before. Funny (and kinda annoying) thing is that he is a regular Beagle that belongs to Bailey. He is NOT an extraterrestrial species.
  • What kind of research is conducted in the lab (storywise, I mean, gameplaywise I know the answer)? Maybe Darin could claim he or Bailey came into contact with a substance that caused the blue pigmentation during pragnancy? Depending on how hard-science Vs. fiction your setting is they might even get a compensation from the lab owners/government.
    But even so homeschooling would be the best option to not draw attention.

    (On a sidenote when a similar problem occured in a spinoff of the Elfquest comic series, the protagonists claimed it was "body paint" and "very hip". Later background characters spread that lie and although it was never explicetely mentioned, I imagine that started a trend, lol.)

    Tell the school she has a circulation issue?

    Lmbo that cracked me up. Maybe it shouldn't have, but it did.
  • Interesting thoughts @EnkiSchmidt. There are a variety of projects going on in the lab. Darin personally has an interest in botany, trying to tend a garden at work. He also uses the results in a number of experimental chemical serums, so there is some chemistry being introduced there.
    With your idea in mind I just did a quick google on blue skin pigmentation. Turns out there is an extremely rare genetic condition caused by the blood not being oxygenated. A similar effect can occur with certain drugs, so maybe my Sims could semi-realistically claim exposure...
  • The things we google for our sims - lifelong learning is certainly true for simmers :)
