So I decided to grow a Cow Plant because I loved the idea of having a silly plant monster thing in my garden greeting everyone that passed by. Though I suppose I should've done more research on it bef...

That's what your Sim tries to feed them when they aren't hungry. It never seems to actually work as far as I've tried, unfortunately.
