Create a Style?

https://simscommunity.info/2021/09/23/a-modder-has-discovered-how-to-add-create-a-style-to-the-sims-4/

Thought I'd ought to share this as soon as I heard about it. Thoughts? ;)

  • It would be amazing if he accomplished it, but I'm not holding my breath. Way before EA ever implemented the sliders for CAS, a modder thought he had figured out how to add the same colorwheel that came with C&D to CAS items but turned out he never could get it to actually work so he scrapped the project.

I'm not too excited for it for that exact reason, but still, if he could manage it I'd download it in a heartbeat. I'm kinda wondering though, if he's just now able to do this, or just now thinks he might be able to do it, could that mean that there was a change in code in the recent update? A change in code that could hint that they're actually working on the same thing right now? Probably not lol.
  • While I think a hue/saturation slider would be possible for everything in the game ..... it would be a lot of work, but still possible to do in TS4, but CASt'ing abilities I don't think will ever come.

In TS3 everything was set up from the beginning to have channels which separated where/what parts something could be recolored/retextured/repatterned.

In order for a true CASt function, every single texture on every single object/door/window/wall/floor/CAS items would need to be completely redone to indicate which parts could be changed.

Even doing it the way TS2 did with certain parts of objects having the ability to pick different textures for certain parts of the items (ie: bed sheets and bed frames, countertops and counter bases, plants and plant vases/pots, etc), would be a TON of work.

So yeah, I don't see any of these scenarios ever coming to TS4.

  • If they worked on the hue thing, I'd expect it to be included with something as simple as finger nails. So, I'm not holding my breath for such a big adjustment to the game. Would still be nice if they added it to a few objects, but normally changing hue of all textures of an object won't look very good, so I don't really expect it on complex stuff.

I loved the cast wheel in TS3, but I also think it contributed to the lag. We also had patterns/structures etc, not just plain colors, and we could even add our own patterns IIRC. I don't see how they could implement such an advanced system this late, and frankly, I'd rather want them to spend their dev resources on more game developing matters. Implementing a color wheel for limited parts of the catalog would be cool, though.
