- kusurusu4 years agoSeasoned AceI just found out that the pronoun "they", now considered gender-neutral, derives from Old Norse "þeir", which was uniquely masculine back then (feminine version being "þær").

I don't play TS4 anymore bc I am old-fashioned and would like to play a satirical life simulator, not a safe space twitter simulator, and that makes me not welcome as an EA customer anymore.
I just pop up for some news (and mostly lols tbh) and yet there is something I don't get here: why must the sim's pronounce be visible in the live mode? So other sims can address them accordingly?
But they won't though, they'll use the same old sul-sul-mu-mu or whatever, so what's the point?
As far as i know they never confirmed or said that pronouns would be in live mode. I believe that's one of many assumptions but they are probably taking the players feedback into consideration. - WaytoomanyUIDs4 years agoSeasoned AceI really dont understand why people are getting bent out of shape about the pronouns. This will not affect your existing sims, you will not be forced to choose pronouns for them. They are not removing existing gameplay to add pronouns. And unlike what some have suggested in this thread, choosing pronouns is not somehow gay or straight erasure. Gender and sexuality are toitaly different things.
- The tweet doesnt say exactly that you can or cannot disable the feature. Just says you can choose to interact with it or not. But still says its a work in progress so its good players give feedback because that could influence the final product.

But our sims don't use any pronouns between them. The pronouns are just for players notifications. Simlish is the most neutral and inclusive language because it doesn't exist.
Anyway I miss the times when the sims series was just a game.
Yeah me too.
Reading about the sims and watching their livestreams feels like watching the news. - Omri1474 years agoSeasoned AceI don't mind the pronoun options, I'll just say again though... The game is taking itself too seriously and is deviating from 'Game about quirky virtual people' to 'Every Sim is YOU' which makes it feel less and less like a game as time goes on.
- I read the interview about this over on The Sims Community site. Perhaps I'm wrong but it seems this is not the entire plan but to eventually make the game gender neutral and therefore help change society (by remarks made in that interview) and or influence through the game to change society and gender neutral language be used as the norm in society by helping to influence this through EA games. I'm not sure if I actually comprehended this correctly (the interview) but that was my take away from the discussion. Anyone can correct me if they read the interview and if that isn't the goal eventually. It certainly read that way to me.
I'm again disappointed with Maxis because I have just a few questions. I'm sure this will take a great deal of discussions with particular groups of GLAAD (I hope I got that right) and others to implement this the way they see it. Therefore, it will take a great deal of time and pay to implement this. Good for those who want other pronouns nor none at all. However, how much dedication and effort is Maxis putting into representing the disabled? Any? Inclusivity only seems to be for a particular market and ignore or erase all others. And disabled aren't the only folks not represented. So, if this is about inclusivity and diversity, I'm still waiting for Maxis to actually be inclusive and diverse instead of claiming to be and only doing the work of one niche group.
I won't spam my replies to others but I think Simgirl got to right, the game is about representation, and it looks like that is the direction of The Sims for the past few years instead of actual gameplay. It's too bad Maxis doesn't put this much dedication into others being represented and or actual gameplay worth buying. - CAPTAIN_NXR74 years agoLegend

When a professional team of game developers decides to share work in progress with their player base I would like to think that they’re open to any constructive feedback that player base may want to give based on said WIP.
One can have 50 experts trying to come up with great ideas, but there’s still that user experience. We as a community are here to give feedback about this user experience since ultimately we are the ones who have been and still are investing time and money in this game.
No one here is getting bent out of shape about the inclusion of customizable pronouns. Some of us are critical about the execution of this feature and how this may affect future gameplay.
Our feedback should be a valuable aspect to the Sims team, because if it isn’t, they wouldn’t share WIPS with us.
If we don’t voice our concerns now it’ll be a lot harder to change things at a later stage.
This is what WIPS are for. Constructive Feedback.
And that’s what we should give right now. Constructive Feedback.
It’s that simple. "Cinebar;c-18040220" wrote:

Yeah from looks of the interview, maybe its only talking about the game in context of this update, but it sounds like more focus on the game being used as a tool for social change rather than, you know,a game. Which is why ive been losing interest and faith in the series. I am holding onto hope Sims 5 will be different but nothing is pointing towards that.- leo34874 years agoSeasoned Acehttps://simscommunity.info/2022/01/19/customizable-pronouns-importance-in-the-sims-4/
Thanks for the link, but as read the part of Verónica Morales, raise a question
It mean non binary pronouns and non binary terms will bring to non english languages, only when those terms be officially recognized at dictionary?
