Deleting Sims - What Happens?

Im curious (about a lot of Sims 4 things really lol) but I remember in past iterations that even though the game allowed deletion of Sims it was widely frowned upon and was the cause for neighbourhood corruption after some time. Im wondering if it's safer to delete Sims now in this current version of the Sims?

I know the game will cull Sims automatically unless they are marked as "played" but I often go through the management screen and delete Sims I don't want to keep.

Any insight would be wonderful. Thanks!

  • I delete sims all the time in manage households - only randomly generated townies though, since they're often terribly dressed and named. I haven't noticed any issues from this and I've been doing it from the start. My understanding is it's a perfectly safe feature and there for you to use to create your world as you deem fit. The game will just generate more townies as and when needed.
  • Deleting sims is totally fine. The game will just genetate new sims to fill the roles of the deleted sims.

All my random townies seem to come with Japanese sounding names. I find them hard to remember.

I can't even pronounce some of the names that come up on mine since City Living. Don't get me wrong, diversity is good, but it does feel like overkill and thus not diverse at all. Most of them are wanted by the fashion police too.

That seems to be from City Living introducing more "cultural" names.

I've deleted every household in a couple of saves and have had no issues. My current long-term project is to fill the worlds with the old Sims being uploaded to the Gallery by Maxis (the Newbies, the Pleasants, etc) plus add in a few others. For example, since we got the Pleasants I created my version of the Broke family (so I can eventually get Angela Pleasant together with Dustin Broke); I made Dustin a teen, brother Beau a child and the unborn baby that Brandi was carrying in Sims 2 is a toddler daughter named Skipper after the father she'll never know.

Interesting tidbit: if you delete all the households and you have Get Together, all the clubs are deleted but the game will generate new ones; the last time I did an Empty Worlds save, I ended up with a fishing club named Just For The Halibut. :D

Isn't that a normal name of a club that already comes with Get Together? I'm pretty sure I've seen that name when I was looking thru the club names when Get together came out. I'll have to look now.

In The Sims 2/3 the depth in relationships, family tree, memories, etc ... was what caused corruption when you deleted a sim. In The Sims 4 most of these things have been removed or turned into fake features (such as family trees that are not as important in the game, or interactions). You can delete most sims in Sims 4 without a problem, if they are important like the Von Haunt ghosts, the game will spawn them again. But those important ones don't show up in the manage household feature.

Just for the Halibut is an EA premade that appears when clubs drop below a certain number, there's also Check Mates, Private Club, Guild of Gamers etc that'll generate if the old clubs are deleted or culled (no members left)
