Did you enjoy Get Famous? How do you play with it?

Hello,

There's one pack I don't see getting much love around here, and it's Get Famous. I have fond memories of Sims 1 Superstar for some reason (mostly nostalgia, me being 7 and all at the time I guess) and I'm still surprised Sims 2 never got anything like that. Didn't get to play Sims 3 much aside from base game and Late Night, but don't like the concept of celebrities being split up between Late Night and Showtime.

Anyway, do you enjoy Sims 4's take on celebrities? Do you enjoy this expansion pack? How do you play with celebrities?

I'm currently playing a sim who is a content creator, and I think it's a neat idea that our sims can earn fame through so many different ways, recording and posting videos included.

  • I enjoy playing it when my sim is the celebrity...but not when townies are celebrities. It's really annoying with all the paparazzi and the celebrities causing pandemonium at clubs, cafes, and restaurants. And it's still messed up when friends and relatives are celebrities - you still can't talk to them.
  • I didn’t think I would like it, because I’m not much into the celebrity theme. It has been surprisingly enjoyable for me. I recommend it.
  • I really liked the reputation system. My main character is an alien and that built in anger Sims have for them never goes away normally. The reputation system actually let's a good alien cause positive reactions. The Fame/Celebrity aspect is cool because it just adds some different interactions. I've always imagined several of my sims wanting to be famous so it provides that goal.

Cons: Yeah, a celebrity showing up at a club causes havoc. The music stops, the bartender abandons his post, and everyone just sits around in silent screaming and trying to interact with the celebrity.
  • I enjoy the acting, and being able to make money with vlogs. With vlogging there are cute little animations while doing fashion and or make up. I love that your sim has to audition, can practice with self or others, and the whole stage/set performance. I think it was well made imo. Just an enjoyable pack.
  • I actually hated the Superstar expansion in TS1, but Get Famous is okay, somewhere in the middle in my EP ranking, because I'm not that much into celebrities personally, not in real life either. Objectively speaking, though, I'd say it fares a lot better, being one of the few EPs that...
    1) can actually influence the entire sim world if you let it (unlike others, which you'll only ever notice in specific worlds),
    2) come with actual gameplay instead of just pretty-looking set dressing, and
    3) present a real challenge, because becoming a global superstar isn't quite as easy as I feared it would be.

I have a few sims (mainly artists) that are famous in my game, but I can't play with them for long (at least not outside of their home lots) because it gets on my nerves how fans and paparazzi never leave them alone. But that's realistic, I guess.
  • Celebrities are annoying and the actor career is a buggy mess but if isnt buggy it's quite fun.
  • I play some famous sims as part of my rotation. No one has reached 5 star celebrity status yet, so from my perspective the pack gives a LOT to do. I also like how broad the system is and how you can gain fame from so many things. I'm really looking forward getting to the point where my sims are the famous ones that show up at the locales instead of premade celebrities. Get Famous is really a much better pack than I expected, my expectations were quite low though.

For people looking for difficulty it's great. I think that getting 5 stars of fame is the hardest challenge in the game.
  • In real life I don't care so much about celebrities so I thought I wouldn't care about the fame or fame related things so much. And I kind a don't, but some of my sims do ;) And hunting fame really gives me some goals and makes my game a bit harder and that is something I have been missing.

But the most I like the careers I got with it since now I have many exciting careers for my 4th generation sims that I'm playing in rotation atm. I have an actress, then one on stylist career + making make up/style vlogs and photographing (Moshino stuffpack fits really well with Get Famous). There is one wanting to be a dj and making her own music, and next I will try to make a yogi/meditation teacher who is making money by recording or streaming "lessons" with drone and making videos to his vlog. If I get the Snowy Escape, maybe he can also record his trips to Mt. Komorebi, doing meditative hikes etc :) I feel like the video station and drones will give me quite many new and more creative possibilities to make money and I really enjoy that.

  • Oh, and reputation. I like the idea of it. The problem is, my sims are usually quite good folks so almost everyone ends up with really good reputation, even before they are young adults. And they are not doing anything special, just not being mean all the time. So I would really make it a lot harder to have a good reputation.

For example I have one sim that I'm planning to make famous with bad reputation. But now (since I didn't come up with this plan when she was a baby but later) I have to start by decreasing her stage two good reputation (gained while being kid and teen). There is so much work and so much being mean to others before I'm even in neutral reputation with her...

Btw are there chances to get a bad reputation through work "pop ups" like there is possibilities to gain good reputation if you decide to do something right? I have only had two options, one gaining fame and good rep and other doing nothing.
