Dim Interior Lighting (Easy Fix - NOT a glitch)

I noticed when my sims first entered the game and the house that the lighting was so dark. I was afraid there wasn't anything I could do about it. It is not a glitch. The easy fix I found (don't laugh) is to add more lights. My house is now bright and cheerful. :)

Happy Simming! :)

Something else I noticed is that the more expensive the light, the brighter it is. The cheap lights are just like real life, cheap and dim.

But, alas, adding more lights is not a satisfactory answer for someone like me. I want the game to be aesthetically pleasing while I play the game and when I build, I don't want to have to put tons of extra lights everywhere just because the interiors are so dark. That defeats the purpose of building, in my opinion. I hope EA fixes it or eventually I will have to resort to modding the lighting file. I'm sure it's easy...I should look into it.

I hope they fix it too. By the way will using white color on walls help the room be brighter? I haven't tested that yet.
  • I really hope not all lights will be high, having the ability to set lighting intensity on them would be the best thing, I believe Sims3 had this? I like having a bit of a lighting mood, but being forced to use a set lamp to have it is unfortunate if the style dont fit in with the room at all. Being able to change "Lightbulbs" (intensity) no matter what lamp could solve this

Some were calling for the game to be more realistic. This is one of the ways (imo) that it has become so. I find it to be a challenge. The idea of having the invisi lights that were in TS3 added to TS4 would be nice. Thanks Guru for that suggestion. Please make it so. :)

You can, you have a slider too, so you're not just restricted to low medium or high. You get a nice range.
  • I am having a lighting trouble. I have gone as far as to put six ceiling lights in one small room however, the room is still very dark as if there are no lights. I'm assuming this is a glitch but after restarting the game, it was still like this. Any advice?

Some of the lights are naturally dimmer than others. Try using different ones until you find one that is brighter. Welcome to the forums!
