Foxbury has a billion stairs and it takes forever to get anywhere. The Commons is also unnecessarily ginormous so it seems sparsely populated. Britechester is more compact and easy to get around. I for one have more fun playing Britechester.

And yup, after you finish at one, you can always try out the other for a different degree ?

Well that's good to know. I was so worried I would be stuck with one. Especially if i chose one I didn't like :lol:

I love the old world feel of Britechester, it's sooo pretty. And it's smooth to follow sims, and they don;t take too long to get anywhere.
Foxbury drives me nuts, to the point I feel it's completely unplayable, which makes me so sad because it's also a beautiful design aesthetically. But if you are following a sim anywhere, the camera shoots around all over the place, shoots up into the sky, I feel like I'm constantly readjusting the camera and I can't just look at my sim from the angle I want to without 3 hours of moving the camera around first! Plus like the above post said, there are so many stairs that if you try and ride a bike anywhere your sims will miss their classes because they'll still be taking their bike out/putting it away at one of the stairs. It does have a cycle path type design that you can use, but they never use it automatically, and you have to click on different sections of it to get them to use it at all.

What I've done is designed a completely new campus in Oasis Springs for all my Foxbury students, because it's the only way I can play it, and I like my sims to do distinguished degrees (I thought science sims and being in the middle of the desert is a bit Area 51 ;) ) But yeah, Foxbury is pretty but completely unplayable in my personal opinion, unless they live off campus.

On a different note, a good tip is that once a sim is in class, you can click on their icon at the bottom of the screen and choose options, like "Take Notes" or "chat with friends". (like when sims go to work), so clicking "take notes" definitely seems to help the grade!

So far I mainly played Britechester and I really love it. I like the old and classical look and feel of that neighbourhood.

Just a reminder, you can edit dorms and commons if you don't like them. If you have students living in your dorm you need a cheat. Empty dorms can be edited without a cheat. The only thing you can't change is the layout of all the stairs between buildings in foxbury.
You can also choose the dorm lot type on other lots even in other worlds. So it is possible to enjoy dorm life and 'commute' to uni at the same time.

As for switching universities I believe I read posts about switching uni between terms. You can loose some credits though. I have not tested this myself yet but the trailer also claimed the main character switched universities.

Do you know if you live in a dorm, can you lock the door to your room from everyone else? (like in sims 3 you can lock everyone out and edit ur own room) and of course edit it in build mode. Or is that something you would need a cheat or a mod for ?

I definitely prefer Britechester. Everything works much better in there than in Foxbury. My Sims can use the bike there without issues, but Foxbury and bikes are just a big no-no, too many stairs. Also some of my Sims often cancel the automatic 'go to class early' action or they don't even get it at all in Foxbury. It doesn't seem to happen in Britechester, at least it hasn't happened to my Sims yet.
It annoys me a lot that Foxbury seems to be such a mess and obviously buggy. I don't even want to send my Sims in there anymore. :/

You can lock the door.

When I first arrive in my dorm, I assign all the beds to my liking for everyone and then lock all the doors so that only the sims whose room it is can go in there. You do this by 'lock door for everyone ' and then 'allow access for specific sim'.

It saves on all that mass congregating in bedrooms lol.

It should be possible but I have not used this option myself. Locking my sims laptop was enough for me. But I think I read somewhere on this forum that this might cause problems when you move out of the dorm.

There seems a lot of negativity about Foxbury but, as long as I don't buy a bike, I have never had a problem there.

My sim gets called to class on time, he can walk from the dorm to the class building with time to spare. Also, you can go to class directly from the Foxbury commons without going through a loading screen.

I downloaded a lovely Foxbury Commons lot and my sim spends a lot of time there, since there is free cooked food in the cafeteria. He does a lot of his homework and coursework there and then can zip across to class when needed.

For me, the Foxbury commons always gets a lot more sims going there than the Britechester one, which seems rather empty. But I do like playing Britechester too as it reminds me more of my son's uni (Bristol).

You can switch universities between terms, for example if you are not accepted for a specific course with a distinguished degree on one University because your skills are too low, then you can read the course on the other university and then switch university. You often have to move your sim somewhere after the first term, reapply again so that the university will notice that your skills are better but after that you will most likely be accepted and can continue the course with a distinguished degree on another university. The only downside is that you will lose your current scholarship but that tends to not be that much money anyway.

As for the universities, I like the modern look of Foxbury and the dorms there, they have a large area in the middle where your students can talk with each other. But it is more difficult to study there though because of the stairs and the longer time it takes for your students to get to class. Britechester is easier to play but I don't like the look of the dorms with the small corridors. You can of course rebuild the dorms though, and use mods to get your sims to run faster to class.
