I do that a lot! "How will Gavin and Daniel fall in love in this timeline" never gets old. I also tend to reset the Renegades from GT often, because they stop being fun when they hit the mature adult stage and become settled down family people.
One save is clearly marked as "the real timeline" in my head, a two-years-old rotational one. All other saves are non-canon, short lived and often have clear goals to reach. Edit: Not all the side-saves have my full cast of sims in them, it's always ~5 main characters and ~20 supporters chosen from a ~150 sims pool.
Also the saves' starting conditions vary: sometimes my main sims live in a different world, other times in a historical setting and then again it is just minor things like which sims are the final two members of the Renegades. Especially that last one can change the whole group dynamic.
There are also some things that never change: Gavin will always have (a) cat(s), but the actual cat varies. And Daniel will always get into a row with his family, but just how badly it goes and whether they reconcile will change from save to save.
Admittedly sometimes the results are a little strange, like when Daniel's and Gavin's adopted son, Byron, became a girlchild name of Peggy instead because in one save Daniel was abducted by aliens. And since I didn't play Byron for long, in my head Peggy is the "canon" child now.
