Do You Let Your Sims Graduate Early?

I am just coming up to the end of my third sim year, which is the longest I have ever played the same game! I am now coming across quite a high number of teens in my household rotations who are being allowed to graduate from high school early and I wondered what you peeps do...

Do you let them graduate early? If so, what do you do with them?

I generally only let them graduate early if I want them to go to uni, since the only jobs they can choose are the part-time teen jobs. I am also sad that they cannot attend the high school graduation if they finish early.

Typically I don't let them graduate early, it affects them being able to do the valedictorian speech or attend graduation, they're limited in the number of jobs they're eligible for, and I think even in uni they're not eligible for the some of the extracurricular activities like joining debate team. It doesn't seem to be as much of a benefit to graduating early.

I remember the game saying one of the benefits was they could start career early but they can’t.  If they could it would be great.  But as it is, there’s not really much benefit to it unless university or if you want them to start on something like Crystal creations or focus on social life.

I might be wrong but I think they patched it in so they could still get a graduation and you just have to go to the school at the right time on the following Sunday but maybe I’m confused with something else.

  • Depending on my storyline, I have been in the habit of having my teens graduate early. Mainly because otherwise, they are in high school for so very long. I also do have them in uni. I did so the first time, because I was curious to see how a teen fares in a dorm with the older kids, if you will.

I have also been playing the very same household for years. (Restarting for various reasons during this time.) One of the five children becomes a prominent Rock Star. Despite having his Music Career well on the way, his father insists all of the eligible kids (the fifth one truly is the baby of the family) attend university. For the Rock Star, he points out nothing is certain in life and while he's riding high now, it would be a great idea to have a degree to fall back on.

  • It depends on what I'm doing story-wise. If I for some reason decide I want a sim to go to university, I'll let them graduate as early as possible. Or if I want to just have them ruthlessly skill up. On the other hand, if I want them to be gone for several hours a day, or if I want them to meet a particular sim in school--especially if that other sim is currently a child and I need their high school years to overlap--then I'll keep them in school.

  • Mostly, yes, I allow them to graduate early, especially if I’m wanting them to achieve their aspiration before moving out.  I’m playing a legacy at the moment where some kids are spellcasters and I want them to finish their spellcaster aspiration before leaving school, so if they get the call, they can finish early to concentrate on that.  If not, I just leave them at school to keep them out of the way 🤣.
