Do you turn on aging?

I only use aging for legacy saves.

Aging stays off and that's that! Every time I thought to myself "hey why not let this family age just to see" is when I abandoned a save. The house is crafted a certain way, suddenly Timmy's bedroom is too childish, everyone's wardrobe is wrong, I have to go around and age their friends and immediate family and THEY also need tweaking aaaaand I'm too lazy to fix it so I quit.

I play with only active households aging. Everyone else is just background.

If I switch households, the household I was just playing becomes a prop until I get back to them.

I usually only play one household so a curious question just occurred to me, if I play a family, age up a child to teen then move that teen out on their own. Will the game then allow me to age that teen up older than their parents?

I know that as long as they are in the same household, this can't happen but as a different household?

It depends on the save. I usually enable aging at some point. When I start playing a new save I often keep the aging off until my Sim settles down and decides to start a family.
If I play rotationally in the same save I enable aging only for played Sims and NPC Sims.

Aging is the first thing I turn off in game. A tradition since TS2.

I turn aging on and off. I play with my main households and when I am ready to move on to the next age range I turn aging on for the world. I'm on my third/fourth generation in my current save.

I'm surprised at the number of people who play with aging off. I thought I was one of few.

@WildIrishBanshee Very true. I do usually age up babies and sometimes toddlers manually, it depends on the family.

@simgirl1010 The few times I have tried playing with aging on I also left NPC aging off. Some sims are too iconic to let age.

@musteni & @elanorbreton I've always wondered how people who play rotationally keep all their sims and the NPCs the same age. I never thought of just enabling it periodically.

@alanmichael1 That must be one interesting grocery store! I don't own paranormal stuff, so I didn't know you could do that. I keep seeing recommendations to get it, it seems to have a lot of interesting gameplay.

@Ninoosim Exactly why I play with aging off. My main save is full of about 200 sims that I have created and turning aging on would be chaos. I have tried aging a few of my teens up and thought "well, maybe I'll send him to university" or "maybe she can start that career" but I always end up either aging them back down or rolling back the save.

@PenguinFoop I've never tried that, but it definitely would be interesting. Mom (Adult age): "Johnny, you've grown up so fast!" Johnny (Elder): "Seems like just yesterday I was as young as you Mom." LOL.

@MrManyIdeas The Sims 4 is my first sims game, I plan to get the Sims 3 one day. May the tradition continue with the Sims 5.

Firstly, I play on Long, and with all of the adjustments to the age spans, of late, this gives me plenty of time to enjoy my Sim Family. Before these changes, I did follow the advice of other players and turned aging off while my kids where in university, because the parents were all aging too quickly for them to ever be able to meet grandchildren. Now, I don't have that worry. I rarely turn aging off.

@MrPlumbob I know right! That's what I was thinking. Like having your great-great young adult grandmother giving birth after you and your children are already dead, buried and haunting them. Lol
