Doctor Career- Lack of co-workers/helpfulness

The Get to Work expansion is great and will only get better when the glitches are fixed. One issue I have and I know it has been mentioned in some other posts is the lack of co-workers at the doctor career I am finding it impossible to advance due to patients leaving and struggled when the doctor co-worker would leave early.

If several co-workers are present at the Scientist and Detective careers surely this is a glitch that can be rectified. Also the co-workers need to do some work and help out. Not once has a co-worker at the doctor career helped heal someone.

  • I posted on the official bug forum that the NPC hospital employees weren't doing any work, and I was told "this is by design." It definitely needs to be looked at. NPCS at the hospital SHOULD admit a few patients and actually do stuff.
  • In my opinion the NPS at the hospital could AT LEAST, mop the floor, clean the bed, admit a new patient, (leaving one open for emergencies) and feed them from time to time!
  • Active careers really need to be played with autonomy off. I dont have any issues as long as I pause the game at the door and turn off the free will - then the day goes as I want it to. I love the doc career personally and didnt have any issues advancing along, the only part that took a while was the deliver a baby hurdle. I also made my hospital work for my sim by putting machines between rooms so she didnt have to walk so far to get tests done. I also dont care if patients leave, it happens in RL all the time - even I have done it myself :expressionless: - it doesnt effect performance in any way. The task list is all you need to concentrate on - once you hit gold, which for me is about the halfway point in the day if my doc isnt facing some sort of emergency offsite, at that point she is either making friends with her staff/patients or upgrading things. Some days I just go around doing tests and diagnosing but not treating - turns out, it doesnt matter! :)

Actually in GTW defense I had seen Sims other than my own mop up or fix items but it is very rare to see it happen.

Only the orderly the game provides after your Sim gets a promotion. The nurse who is there should have been programmed to fill the empty beds and examine patients, after all, by their outfit they have the expertise to do that sort of work.

I'm thinking Sims are trained in this game so it starts out with 'talking', talking, talking in the list of things to do. So, they all stand around talking if you go there as another Sim to work. Even your own. It would have been better if the list started off with doing chores instead of all that talking then at least if one of your Sims were there when you played another Sim in the career, they would be working and not standing around talking.
  • Also, just wanted to throw this out there, when my doc was promoted, her staff threw her a "promotion party". They called her up on the phone and asked her to come down to the lounge so they could "celebrate her promotion" - she went and everyone was in formal attire and many toasts were had. It should be noted my doc was friendly with her staff at the time of her promotion. I guess that is the side perk of chit chatting but she also chatted a few up on the computer/phone after work too. I wanted to see what kind of difference 'friendly to coworkers' made as it does say that in the tooltip which I usually never bother with in normal careers

I also noticed (could be my imagination) that if my doc basically greeted everyone on arrival, since they all tend to congregate up at the desk a lot anyway at the start of the day, she was able to avoid the constant interruption of her staff coming to say hi while she was busy with a patient. Early on I also yelled at workers and told them to shoo when they were tying up a patient that I was trying to work on - from that day on whenever my doc walked into a room they were in (orderly/nurse) they promptly stopped talking and left the room lol It kinda made me sad to make my perky happy Dr Pepper yell at anyone, but she seemed heaps happier afterwards - or maybe that was her benevolent god....

I'd say free will is still the key to keeping your sanity and getting the job down and done (same with my scientist and detective) :)

I am really enjoying the active careers, the doc and scientist are my favs. The detective seems a little redundant but it gives my hunky Rock Chimes something to do and me a reason to watch :flushed:
  • I played the doctor career more than any other career for several times, and no one ever called my doctor to celebrate a promotion. Never heard of that in this game.

Yes, indeed even have to watch your own Sim because if you do not keep track them they are wander off and they are chatting it up with another sims or sims.

  • 7 years with no solution? I am trying to find a way to get the co-workers to help in the doctor career. The Orderly when they show up at least fixes broken equipment and cleans messes and makes beds, but I made the nurse my punching bag because she won't do anything but stand between me and a patient chatting.
The receptionist or the nurse can AT LEAST refer patients in the lobby to open beds... it's ridiculous. I mean the most patients I've been able to treat in a day is like 5 assuming I can identify their ailments running a minimum of tests... but to have 6 beds full at the start and 8 more patients filing in, I don't have the time, need or inclination to bed them as they open since they aren't going to be seen anyway. Why is it my problem if they leave? I'm just one Sim.
