Does the Mean Trait mean Grumpy?

Cause I have an idea of a sim, and I want him to be grumpy. So far, the planned traits I have for this upcoming sim is Gloomy, Lazy, Loner, and Mean. I like gloomy cause I want him to be troubled, lazy cause when you're an emotional wreck it's hard to be not lazy, loner cause I'm sure he will tolerate other sims' presence, but he just rather be alone mostly, and mean so he'd be grumpy towards sims cause he doesn't wanna talk about his troubled past.

But I'm not sure if mean will mean he'll be grumpy generally or if he'll go out of his way to be mean to others. Cause I want him to be grumpy when approached but not where he'll get in fights.

I hope I'm describing this well. Please let me know if I didn't. Like I guess if he fights sometimes it would be okay, but I don't want him to go up to others and start a fight. Sorry, I keep going. I hope I described it well. Please be kind and help me out.
  • Here's how I percieve those traits:
Gloomy = random sad moodlet every now and then
Lazy = can nap on living chairs, will walk rather than run, hates cleaning
Loner = gets tense moodlet when around new sims, easily embarrassed
Mean = can autonomously use mean interactions, gets happy moodlet from doing so

The trait system is far from perfect in my opinion. I don't think I listed all of the effects but maybe this helps a little. Also remember you can only pick three.

It doesn't matter which traits you pick. Your sims will act the same. The TS4 traits do not create sim's character. Unfortunatelly.

Anyway, I don't think you can create a grumpy sim with any of those traits TS4 has to offer. IMO the mean trait doesn't really make a sim grumpy.
  • Traits are secondary to emotions when it comes to sim behaviour. Regardless of their traits sims will act the way their emotions dictate. Therefore for a grumpy sim you'll want to minimize the occasions your sim receives happy moodlets and that's easier said than done.

Lazy - will get happy from comfy furniture
Mean - will become happy from being mean to others
Loner - will become happy from being alone and tense from being around strangers
Gloomy - this one should be save

I suggest Hates children (gets tense when around kids or even toys, a few well hidden toys in the living room will work wonders!) and Ambitious (will get tense if no promotions come along, easily done by making him do woodworking for a living instead of a job) along with Loner to maximize the Tenseness potential. For their starting aspiration consider Deviance, because of the bonus trait that makes mean interactions more powerful. Once ingame change the aspiration to whatever you want.

Well then I can narrow them down then :3 Yeah, the trait system is interesting, yet it could also get improved as well. Thanks for the help  My main goal with this sim, is a troubled loner kind that easily annoyed by having to interact with others or if they bother him at all from whatever his hobbies are. XD

What? Then what's the point of traits if they don't make the personalities of the sims?!

Do you have any suggestions on how to make a grumpy sim then?

Thanks for the help! Lol, to intentionally annoy one of my sims would be so funny XD I like the ideas you gave, I'll give it a try
