I've never won against a sage, even when my rank is high. I'm about 10:90 against a novice. Very frustrating!

Same, here. I thought that with my first Sim, who was still an acolyte, she was unlucky in choosing higher-ranked duelling partners, but when my other Sim, who is a virtuoso, duelled, she kept losing, too. I don't even want to duel, but they need it for the spellcasting aspiration.
