Eco lifestyle : build with eco friendly materials

I just got started with eco lifestyle. I am trying to build a new home in Port promise and want to keep that area industrial. I know some build materials are eco friendly while others are industrial. My question is where can I see how green or industrial the lot is in build mode?

Is it normal that the container walls and floors are classified differently, one as eco friendly and one as industrial? It feels strange.

  • I can't find any way to see the lot's footprint in Build mode.

For me the wall coverings Corrugated Metal has Green Footprint 2; and the Panel to the Metal Industrial, 1.
The application of the opposite footprints is limiting for building, for instance I love brick, but it is almost always industrial; but I interpret it as by design, if that is what you are asking.
  • Too bad there is no option to check the eco footprint in build mode.

I suppose the choices of what is considered industrial is by design, even if I don't always agree. I thinkI might turn the option for the impact of building materials of.(I can't recall what it's called in the game options) I think I will enjoy building more if I can choose freely. I like using brick walls for example.
  • It takes a lot to make a neighbourhood get an industrial footprint though, so a couple of walls and floors here and there I do not think matters. I have turned one neighbourhood industrial, Spice Market in San Myshuno, and it took a renovation of all apartments with everything industrial, as well as fire places and generators etc, to turn it.

I like the idea, I just wish some of the wall and floor coverings were labeled different.
  • I really wish there were filters available to easily see the industrial or eco materials, and I agree more materials should be given eco functionality. But ya like Auroraskies said you will need to renovate all the lots in any neighbourhood to match the footprint you want, as well as play a couple of sim days on that lot to see any meaningful changes.
  • Oh, yes, that is great idea, to have filters to find the added on values. I have plans to turn several neighbourhoods in my playsave either Green or Industrial, and it takes a lot of time finding the wall and floor covers to do that, as well as compromising with the esthetics I have in mind.

That's why I turned it off. I like that the option is there for those who want the challenge, but I just want to make things look the way I want them to look without further consideration. I'm glad they gave us a toggle.
  • I find building with both materials that I want and eco materials to be actually very interesting challenge. It also allows one to use nooks and crannies in their houses for these eco-affecting materials to shift the scale in direction they want.
