Education/jobs and skills?

I may be wrong on this one, probably haven't paid much attention so correct me if I'm wrong but: sims don't up their skills when they work or go to classes, at least it's an active career, right? Even in the university pack, they get more skills by doing homework but don't seem to learn anything in class, with parenthood you get those projects to do at home and can sometimes get a thing that alters the traits that come with the pack. I know you can choose how they work or something where you can get more friends, work harder or other things that can affect their emotions, but I don't think they learn anything.
I'm not even asking for an education pack, but I feel like it's kind of basic that those things increase a sim's skills.

  • I think unless there is a specific pop up when they're at work to affect skills, there isn't really any other impact on skills when they're at work. School and university classes dont seem to develop skills, but they do affect performance and grades.

KawaiiStacie has a mod called Smarter Homework (I'm not sure if it's updated) that lets kids and teens build skills through completing their homework, which doesn't solve the problem completely, but it can be helpful to keep slowly building their skills :)
  • The only thing I have noticed about skill for sims is that the skills you gain as a toddler don't pass on to you being a child you have to start all over again with skills.... Does anyone know why this is, I know if you have a good toddler life you get an extra trait of happy toddler and your child often thinks about being a toddler but all your skill progress is lost... its not my favoutie thing :s

Agreed! I think the same goes for kids aging up to teens. It feels very strange that a teen starts with 0 skills, just because the skill names are changed. Good Social skill should at least make the teen start with 1 p Charisma, Motor equals to Fitness, etc. I never saw any of thees affect the start of a teenager.
  • I can't say ive noticed it going to teen from child, thanks for the insight! :) Maybe some of the skills you cant take to childhood and above like movement and potty training that could be why you have to start over at childhood??
  • I could be wrong, but I believe if you max a toddlers skills those will transfer to childhood, and the same is true for child skills into teenager.

Toddler to child is true, but teenagers don't have special skills children have. However, should a child max out one of the childhood skills, they can begin learning adult skills, which do transfer over to teenagehood.
  • Ive never had a child max out a skill before so that really insightful to know, do you know what adult skills they can start to learn please? :)

    Bowling
    Charisma
    Fishing
    Logic
    Mischief
    Photography
    Piano
    Singing
    Video Gaming
    Violin
  • I quite like the idea of photography and bowling as a skill they can learn, that could turn out intresting game play! Thank you <3
  • I think it would be nice, at least for education to have the sims learn/improve their skills depending on the options: standard not too much but still, work hard more skill increase and maybe the one about making friends and taking it easy not so much or not at all. It would also be cool if certain days there are skills that they learn that others days they don't like motor skill or social skills as if they had PE or group projects. Otherwise it's like they are not learning anything at all in school and university.
