Emotions Are Important

Yes and I put it high on my list!!

They are important. I didn't vote them high though as I don't really like the way they over power traits in TS4. Sim personalities are lost behind sim emotions and I feel like it shouldn't really be that way. I wouldn't like emotions to be removed though as I like having them in my game.

I definitely think that emotions are a very important part of the game. (And not just for better success in my Black Widow challenge lol.) I do think Sims should be more reactive to their emotional state. I do think that there should still be a recommended mood for peak job performance, however, a Sims traits should impact their job performance too. Right now I feel like traits and emotions or moodlets kind of like a side carrots and a side of potatoes instead of them being mixed into a stew.
There are many things that need to be worked on but overarching theme for me would just be to make the game a lot more cohesive in all of it's parts.

i think the emotions system has so much potential that's being wasted. a little improvement will go a long way.

I agree. They need to be improved, mostly in how they relate to traits and relationships and (the lack of) consequences.

For starters, Fine should probably be the default, not Happy.

Hot-headed sims shouldn't just get randomly angry, but rather overreact to negative events, or simply get angry at what would be mild annoyances for anyone else.

Stuff like that.

But the most important one: can they just not get cripplingly sad for two days when someone they don't even know has died?

I fail to see how emotions don't matter at all. They really often are a response to a Sim's traits and don't cause any issues to my gameplay. If anything, it makes the Sims feel more alive and realistic. If the Sim homes don't contain a lot of emotion-influencing items, it's even better as that constantly happy moodlet won't override others so much. My Sim is often feeling focused due to her genius trait. She also feels hungry or tired every day. Hot, too, as it's currently summer in my game. I just can't imagine emotions not being in the game. I think they maybe be misunderstood by some.

It's very high on my rank. TBF, I believe that they should have at least have a screening question where they could probably ask us, how do we play the game. At least give us an option to pick either we are one of the Simmers who play the Sims (single, generational, challenge, etc) and those who build stuffs only and also those who do both. Then the result of the survey would make more sense and can help to justify our choices.

I'm not sure how the results will turn up, BUT let say, if those who are answering the questions are mostly only build stuffs, they won't be bother about the emotions & other stuffs where we want to enhance our experience while playing the game. Same goes to other stuffs which perhaps related to architectural to those who are only interested to build stuffs. Hence, the outcome can be so skewed either positive or negative depending on the numbers of people answering the questions and which group they are belong to. However, if we have enough participants (let say, for example 50:50 - play the Sims & build stuffs only), then at least we could have a normal distribution. Then again, there'll be outliers where they need to understand as well.

I hope that they could at least make some sense from what they've gathered from the survey. They need to acknowledge that, they're a lot of different type of Simmers and each of us need different thing to enhance our experience.

@Nindigo It is? Could have fooled me lol. Maybe my sims all just have a weird chemical imbalance, but I've only seen them be fine a handful of times. They mainly just circle back to happy when all other emotions wear off.

I put emotions last on my list because frankly the whole game revolves around them. Emotions are just a different need that needs to be constantly micro-managed and I don't like managing them. They are disruptive and way too easily changed by everything in the game, and it's not really worth the hassle managing them. Because of all these, I largely ignore them. I don't enable emotional auras on objects and don't pursue certain emotional states.

It is. They will become happy if all of their needs are high. If they ate a good meal or had a nice shower, for example. But if their home has little to no decor and some of their needs aren't in the high end, they revert to 'fine'. The issue may be that a lot of things affect our Sims positively ;)
