Maybe the females have beards, too, like the dwarves in LOTR.
I had to look them up, and I see they seem to suffer from Hirsutism, but they still look clearly female.
I dare you to tell a Tolkein (or D&D) dwarf that they "suffer" from having a beard. :) Most are quite proud of their whiskers, thank you very much.
My bad, didn't realize the whiskers were a beauty standard similar to the scales on mermaids. 😁
