First I want to say I never understood the flat out "your sims" or "in your Simsworld", because I approach every neighborhood (or world, in TS 4) differently. What is established truth in one, could be a half forgotten myth in another and a lunatic´s raving with no grain of truth to it in a third. I set up my neighborhoods/worlds like I would a roleplaying campaing with a specific history, technology level, international relations, several races, religions and attitudes. These may touch, but need not, my own convictions, but can also be totally opposite to what I believe in in the real world. For example I strongly oppose the death penalty, but in my sims games some worlds have it, while others abolished it and yet others never practiced it to begin with. And I used to love discussing with other such worldbuilders, before I realized how much more sophisticated and complex many people´s sims worlds are compared to mine.
My sims worlds have two things in common:
1) Everyone is bi - sexual by default, simply for the reason that I require everyone to breed (don´t want to lose a genetic line). Most of the couples end up mixed, nevertheless, and I have more male/male than female/female pairings.
No, I do not play male/female roles in same sex couples, because for a long time I thought this was a myth/stereotype. It seems to be a real thing, after all... fortunately my own sims and I can play in any way I want!
Also I consider myself aromantic, but that doesn´t keep me from having my sims indulge in flirting and woohooing to their heart´s content. It´s no different then seeing them play cards - not my cup of tea, either, but without it something would be missing.
2) Though I have set up a fair share of worlds that include prejudice of different kinds, these are never based on skin color and only in very rare cases on species. My sims strongly identify with a culture, nation or social standing, however. A vampire from Desiderata Valley will most of the time have more in common with fellow Desideratans than with a vampire from Draculstein.
