It's an idea but then again, it would likely take considerable work to make all the animations properly catered to Sims of different heights. I've seen what happens with height sliders. Half the Sim's head gets cut off. I say a height slider should be implemented from the start with whatever comes out after The Sims 4; with all animations properly catered towards those heights.
Yes, making certain Sims with the body types available is frustrating, and setting certain body proportions (not heights) is often a headache. Just yesterday, I was making a cowgirl Sim (you know, in case we get a horse pack) based off an actual roper. The woman was a bit on the shorter side and very stocky/muscular (but not really toned at all). Those are among the hardest body types to recreate in terms of Sims. If I try to mess with the body sliders, I always end up with a Sim whose hips are too narrow, and shoulders too wide. In other words, if I mess with the presets, they're gonna look weird.
