Finding plants?

I just got seasons recently and don't fully understand how that alters the whole gardening experience quite yet. But I know that now I'm finding it more difficult to find plants that I'm able to harvest from, or even take a cutting. I have been attempting to get a snapdragon/strawberry cutting and a snapdragon/strawberry plant in order to create dragon fruit. As discovered while playing, I've become aware of the fact that fruits will only grow once they're in season, yet I'm still finding it difficult? I've gone to lots such as the BFF household and the manor in Willow Creek that have planters, yet despite the plants being in-season I'm still unable to take a cutting nor are they growing anything to harvest. I'm unsure what to do now. Anyone know how I can get the snapdragon and strawberry plants?

  • Yes, things are quite difficult now that they had been updated for seasons. The thing that I really don't like is there are some plants that still harvest in the winter, even though the plants look dead or dormant. With that being said I found a mod that I really like. All the plants will grow and be harvestable during Spring, Summer, and Fall, and go dormant in the Winter. I have this mod, and now I can find the plants growing like they were before I added Season, with the exception of Winter, which should be the case. If you're interested in the mod it can be found at this link. https://www.deichschafblog.de/s4/mods-fuer-jahreszeiten/
Look for the one that is called Plants go dormant in winter only, about halfway down the page.
  • They changed the dynamics of when plants grow and are harvestable in relation to the time of day besides just what season in which they will grow. You need to be in the area before 5 a.m. when plants grow produce/flowers. At least that's the case with certain venues such as the lab for the Scientist career. That's why Scientists have to grow their own plants now to create serums because the job starts at 10 a.m.

Now, I don't know if that's true for everywhere though, for instance in parks and neighborhoods where you don't currently live. That's the other thing, once you do plant something on your lot, you need to be home at 5 a.m. in order for the plants to grow. If your Sim is gone somewhere else, the plants won't grow anything to harvest until you are there around 5 a.m. (could be 5:30-6).

Plus, grafting has been borked ever since the gardening patch before Seasons. The percentage is much lower (like 1%) that you'll ever get the produce you grafted to get. That's one BIG reason why I don't garden as much as before that patch. It's a pity since that was one of the things I loved doing most in my game.

Anyway, if you're determined to get Dragonfruit, all is not lost. Just go fishing! The pier in Magnolia Promenade is one spot. There's a very high percentage your Sim will fish up at least one, probably more depending on how long you let them fish there. I got 3 within just a couple hours. Also, Magnolia Blossom park's fishing spot way in the back where there are three signs is another place you can get Dragonfruit. Just make sure you fish at the sign in the middle, that one is for 'rare' fish and the only one I personally have been able to get Dragonfruit from.

I hope this helps! Happy Simming! <3

Oh wow thank you so much for all the information... I had no idea since I haven't really been playing the Sims 4 recently. Gee the 1% thing is really annoying, I used to enjoy gardening a lot but that just totally puts me off. That's really disappointing... Will definitely try fishing for the dragon fruit though. Also didn't know that was possible, seems I still have a lot to learn about the game.

All info is much appreciated!! <3
  • I am not sure, but I also read that you have to be on the lot at 6 am when the plants are triggered to grow fruit, because they're all on the same timeline now. I think I read that on a thread complaining about festival plants not having harvestables.

Correction that is 5 am if you miss that time, you won't see anything happen.
  • @Nonawesomebratz You're very welcome! I hope that if you do try fishing in those spots, your Sim has as much luck as mine did fishing up Dragonfruit. Yeah, the extremely low 1% grafting success rate is very disappointing to me. But, I'm hopeful the Devs will realize they went a little too far making grafting so challenging and up the odds a little bit more in a future patch. *crosses fingers*

    Happy Simming anyway! <3

BTW, Thanks @kalaksed for posting your additional information. I knew all that, of course, should've included it in my post. But I'm glad you did for those new to TS4 who have the Seasons EP and enjoy gardening. Very helpful and I'm sure appreciated. *thumbs up* :)
  • I'm having the same difficulty trying to get pomegranate from a spliced cherry/apple tree. I made the mistake of splicing apple to a cherry tree, which is only in-season in summer. Both apple & pomegranate are autumn fruits. I'm hoping for more success if I graft cherry to an apple tree.

The last one you are going to try is the correct one to create a pomegranate, but I've heard that splicing is kind of messed up with Seasons.
  • Once you reach gardening level 10 you get the option to purchase rare seed packets. There are Orchid, dragon fruit, bird of paradise, the beans for plan sim stump, etc...in there. I'm thinking this was the way they've decided to do things to make it easier to get the special plants because of the difficulty growing/gathering Seasons would cause.
