- The thread title was: FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DISLIKED SIMS 4 AT FIRST AND NOW LIKE IT...WHAT CHANGED YOUR MIND?
The OP is asking to hear from people who initially disliked the game but now like it. - Hm for me it has actually been the opposite. At first I loved Sims 4. I loved the look and feel of the sims. I loved the new emotions and goals and stuff they included in the game. I was excited about future possibilities.
But since then, nothing has really improved. I pretty much come on here to check for new content a couple of times a month, hoping there will be some.
Now, there are still things I prefer about Sims 4 to any previous Sims game. I love building houses in 4. It's so much easier and I feel like I can really build what I want without much effort. In 3 I really had to work and use cheats to build interesting things, and the tools were a little clunky.
I also prefer the look of the actual Sims in Sims 4. I like that they can look so unique. In my opinion the CAS is far superior to Sims 3. And I do prefer the clothing and outfits interface in 4 as well. Other than that, I prefer gameplay in Sims 2 and 3. There's just not enough in Sims 4 for me yet. It doesn't have the sandbox feel of the other games. I don't feel like I'll still be discovering things about the game years down the road. Talk to me at the end of the Sims 4's life span and my opinion may have changed. Maybe the final 3-4 expansions will be awesome. Maybe the game packs of my dreams will be released in 2016. Maybe they'll finally add toddlers. I can't say what I will think about the game at the end. But as of right now I'm kind of done with Sims 4. I've been back to playing 3 exclusively for a couple months now. - Meka321110 years agoSeasoned AceI disliked the Sims when it 1st came out, because honestly I was bored with it. I used to have 8 hour marathons playing previous versions of the Sims & I would try TS4 and could only play like an hour. I felt that the magic was gone & that the traditional, classic Sim content did not carry over from TS2 or TS3. How could we have toddlers since TS2 & not have them in TS4, or cars or dishwashers, or NPC's? The details they did not include in the game, was basically a deal breaker for me, as the new content (i.e. emotions, improved build mode, etc.). In my opinion, the base game felt dry & a all goal based. I missed the family play style.
Well, my computer crashed & all my TS2 and TS3 games were gone. I'd have to re-download everything. TS2 Ultimate Collection...it was just 1 file to download, but I couldn't even play. & TS3, there was no way I was downloading all those EP's, & re-patching, etc. So, if I wanted to play Sims, TS4 it was. & actually giving the game a try was a great idea. Even though it's natural to compare to previous versions, you almost have to think of TS4 as its own separate entity. I'm actually enjoying the game. I went from dislike, to a definite like. I've never been a builder in any version of The Sims, but I actually build in TS4, which is cool. I also like the unexpected events that occur. Just yesterday, my Sim was running her bakery & 3 Sims dropped dead. I had 4 customers ready to ring up and there carts disappeared as soon as the 3 Sims dropped dead. Even my Sim was mourning the deaths. I was like, ok, come on Grim Reaper, I have a business to run LOL. But it was hilarious to me, and so unexpected. I was selling Ambrosia...I guess I could have saved some of them...but my Sim wasn't that nice.
I really enjoy the GTW EP. I like all the new careers and I don't play them as much, it's a definite break in the day to day, if you want to take your Sim to work. My favorite is Retail. I didn't think I would ever get my Bakery to be profitable, but there are some great tips on these forums. Somebody mentioned selling Ambrosia, and if you have even 50% markup, you will make tons of simeoleons. & then the emotions system is kind of cool. My Sim got enraged after catching her husband in bed with her own sister. She fought him and then fought her sister. I have never seen a Sim die an emotional death of Anger, so I was engrossed with how she reacted.
At the end of the day, is the Sim magic back w/those long 8 hour marathon? Honestly, nope. Do I still miss toddlers, classic NPC's or cars, etc.? Yep (I would love to get the Gardener NPC back). But I like TS4 enough to only play TS4. I could download TS3 if I weren't so lazy, but TS4 is holding my interest right now. & with Get Together coming out in 3 weeks, I'm actually looking forward to it. At first the Club idea didn't sound appealing, but I am loving the animations from the trailers I've seen and I've already got plans for my current family. TS4 still has great potential. Though I've always said that I commend the developers for taking TS4 a different route than previous versions, but I don't think the execution has been all too great. It seems they're working on things, so I will be patient and see how it goes. As many have said, I still have the previous games to play if I so choose to & don't have to invest in TS4 if I don't want to. "simgirl1010;14300937" wrote:

And I said I like some of it and appreciate some things I requested from animators a hundred years ago are actually in this game (some particular simulations). I didn't like it the first 24 hours I played it, that's a fact. However, when Ebay put it on sale for $30 bucks I thought it was worth that price back last Sept. 2014. Gave it another go. Still not thrilled with a lot of it, but an EP I did like and one GP I did like it's still just o.k....but for the core game it lacks a lot of depth the other have. Like I have put children on hold in this game because they can't even play games together like tag. That sort of stuff is the simulation I am talking about. However, it also has some features and simulations I do like. So, just waiting around to see if they bring out anything (yay cafes) I would like. I didn't love TS3, either. And everyone knows that. But I did buy six EPs, and a few worlds and store stuff because some of the stuff in TS3 was amazing but core gameplay, not I don't like moodlet systems. But here I am playing another one. :D- Scobren10 years agoLegendIt's been odd. I liked the game at first, then got bored with it. Then starting to like it again. So I have had very mixed feelings about the game despite being called a hater by other Simmers. But their issue of prejudice sadly. The Sims 4 still needs a lot of patches still and more content. I could see many being unhappy even when content is added because their "smooth running game" might get a little choppy for them over time. But any Simmer that has played the games for years knows, you never buy a new computer on minimum specs especially as more packs are released. It would be poor planning.

I wonder if people wonder why I like the GTW when I hate scripted play? LOL Maybe it's because I just give everyone the wrong diagnosis and put them all to sleep in the hospital and then my Sim can do whatever. lol- halimali10 years agoSeasoned AceThe Sims 4 is the only sim game that I had rollercoaster relationship with. There are somethings that I definitely like and enjoy like CAS, the look of Sims, multitasking, manage workd, but there are things that make me wonder why they have been done and things like life stages that bother me a lot.
A family tree that was removed was always a puzzling thing to me. Not happy with the one they added because it is broken because of culling.
TS2 I knew I liked it a lot
TS3 I knew I did not like it
TS4 makes me feel good in some areas and makes me feel really angry in other areas. Playing GTW really made me hate this game which I did not want to happen, the first EP, many wanted features but all ended very very half baked. This EP must be one of those that I did not like anything about it, not even CAS items/objects or any of its game play.
I was also angry at GT launch trailer and I still think it is very underwhelming but at least this one it offers a world and clubs.
I don't know, but EPs are very important to be good. If EA continues making them underwhelming and half baked I think I am going to totally dislike the game. "halimali1980;14302150" wrote:

I agree I loved sims 1 I loved sims 2 sims 3 I hated, and sims 4 I like. It needs more for me to love it though, but I play it a lot. I saw the new trailer for GT and I like that it will have open restaurants, I missed them in sims 3, and there is an island, I believe is separate from the main world, I am assuming that I will like it more. I am kind of waiting to "love" it.
I was not going to buy this game at first due to all the problems I had with sims 3, but a dear friend gave it to me as a gift and I kept it in the wrapper for awhile, she kept asking me if I liked it, so, I had to finally play it, and yeah I like it.
I really like that it plays well, I have a lot of ram (16 G's ) and can add more if needed, I have 2 T of storage, so I think I have what I need, my video card is a good one, but I can upgrade if needed as the computer has a lot of room. It has slots for 3 hard drives, and 2 video cards, so if I need to I can really upgrade. It plays flawlessly, which I could never say for sims 3, even the base game.
Sims 4 suits my needs as I play to relax not to have problems playing the game, so I guess I did not dislike sims 4 at first, I guess I was afraid of it at first, did not want to be burned again with poor game play. (Please do not fault me for my feelings on this!)- I started out quite uninterested in TS4. I had seen the information EA had released and after wading through a lot of the confusion (EA, your PR sucked then and it still sucks now) I just didn't see any reason for me to buy the base game at that time because I know how EA like to stage their trailers, how EA tend to run their business models (i.e. nickel and dime EVERYTHING) and on top of that I just wasn't in the mood to deal with another lifecycle of The Sims after how disappointed I had been with TS3.
Launch day came and went and then I started checking out a few YouTube LPs because some of the people I had subbed to were doing them and I think that was when I actually started to get interested in the game. The graphics were nice, the game was running smooth, the sims themselves looked really good and in spite of what I knew was missing the game looked like a lot of fun so I went ahead and bought it. I'd say I probably enjoyed it for what it was for a good few months and I was even looking forward to the first expansion pack (I will note I did not have a lot of the bugs other people had around that time, probably due to my play style) but at that time EA were being very quiet and I was hesitant to jump in any further because the game was just flat out not doing very well and EA dropped Sim City like a stone without any prior warning. Basically I didn't want to spend my money on a game months away from getting the axe.
These days, I've gone back to being quite apathetic towards it. I've always said TS4 set up a nice foundation for future content and for what the game was at the time it was still enjoyable, but after a few pleasant months EA are right back to doing things I'm not particularly happy about from a business standpoint and they seem to be ignoring features of the game that I consider to be important so I've still yet to buy anything other than the base game.
If EA changes this in the future then I'll probably buy up all of the expansion packs to catch myself back up again, but at the moment I just can't justify it. They got a good £100+ out of me for a game I never enjoyed (in fairness, this was my fault), I'm really not eager to repeat that again.
Edit: In a way I find it kind of funny that because of how I feel towards EA, my knowledge of how they like to manage DLC, my knowledge of how they like to fake trailers to make a game look much better than it is and my past experiences with them in general I am so distrusting of them to actually make a decent game that I just don't tend to give their content as much of a chance. A part of me realizes that's irrational but they've just burned me too many times - I have absolutely no reason to be loyal to them or to put any kind of faith in them because they've spent a good 5+ years destroying any trust or faith I had. - jasonsterlingrmc10 years agoSeasoned AceI wouldn't say it grew on me. The stuff I disliked at the start I still dislike and most likely always will as I don't expect EA to fix it anytime soon (read never). That said what I liked at the start I still like and the game is still "okay". It's fun and I'm enjoying it but every time I go back to 3 and build a lot where I can truly have matching furniture and walls and rugs ect using the far more adaptable and flexible build mode, as well as design clothing in colors and patterns that fit my taste, as opposed to the designers at Maxis taste, not to mention create a distressed world to surround a distressed area (as opposed to being surrounded by vivid pink and green trees) I'm reminded of what is lacking in 4 that I really enjoyed in 3- not to mention I still design buildings and neighborhoods with the idea that the world is open, when of course it's not and I might as well put my sim's place of work wherever, a totally different world, as far as convenience goes. Anyway, it was "okay" at the start and it's still "okay" and time will tell if it ever rises above it's current spot as LAST on my list of favorite primary (not spin offs) Sims games.
