Free Laptop?

My sim has done the same thing in the same spot

I've seen this laptop action autonomously queued up on my Sims often when they're visiting libraries, but they've never actually used the laptop. They walk towards the desk and then stand next to it and the action gets cancelled on their queue. It's interesting to hear that they can sometimes actually use the free laptop. It's weird, though.

Hm, envious. My sim found a tablet thing in a park, can use it but not keep it because it says he is not the owner.

I've seen other sims frequently use laptops in the game when away from home where it is permitted by the game on specific lots. I often wonder why none of my sims have access to such a thing, not that it matters much.

From what i can tell the laptop in use by other sims is locked behind a high level requirement in one of the careers. I wonder if all sims have that capability to carry around a laptop? much the same way this game automatically gives every non-played sim an umbrella with seasons installed?

Man, I wish my sims would find random laptops.
I buy my sims laptops and they LEAVE them places. Then I click on the laptop and it says "this item does not belong to your sim" or something along those lines... :s

I don't like the way sims find random objects, or lose the ones they own. I was playing a story where my sim started off on a deserted island and gradually built up his connections and technology and it was pretty annoying when he accumulated technology items whilst fishing and so forth.

The base game laptop (as opposed to the one from Strangerville) is from the freelance writer career, I believe. You get it the first time you max out the performance meter.

I've been surprised by sims using a phantom laptop autonomously as well. Usually only on park or library lots. First time I noticed it was the last time I played through Strangerville - so I'm guessing it's something with a recent patch. Maybe with University.

I do know that (usually) if I take a laptop out of a sim's personal inventory and put it somewhere, the game will return it to my sim if I leave the lot. (I picked one up for my sim the first time I played the Detective Career just so that he could have a computer of his own, since all the ones in the office were occupied.)

I have had laptops appear out of thin air. I hate this feature and use a mod to stop it from happening, as I don't want my sims using computers outside work- or aspiration- related tasks, seeing them randomly pull out a laptop they are not supposed to own nearly made me turn off the game, because I am sick and tired with sims obsession with modern technology. Side note: I love the update that made computers claimable, now I can just lock them for everyone and be in peace.

Yeah he just used it for a little bit (not even sure what he was doing) and when he was done it disappeared. Not in his inventory or in the household inventory. It literally makes no sense. I guess if it only happens in library venues then maybe the concept was that you are renting a laptop for use at the library.

But I personally think that maybe it's just a bug?

My sim has free laptops when his family come over and they pull out their laptops and leave without taking it back, my sim can freely use it. I haven’t seen it happen at the library.
