That doesn't even begin to explain it. I was in the zone with my current sim family when origin kicked me out and QUIT! To tell me the game had a patch update....and there was not even a patch update ...

Gallery items only save to your folder if you click 'Save to Library.' Sorry you lost all of your hard work; we definitely have all been there and that's why saving often is a must.
I'm very surprised about Origin, though. I've never heard of it popping up or disturbing a game in progress. Unless another user is trying to log into your account at the same time.
