Really I will only purchase a laptop, I like to take my game with me. I don't find that using a laptop plum the fun out of the game, I have darn good processing power in the current laptop. Not sure where you are but here in Canada computers are fairly inexpensive (compared to other devices ie tablets or cell phones) which if your going for a desktop, laptops more. However, 6 years is fairly old for computers, desktop or laptop. My 6 year old laptop was a 64 bit and it was $1500.00 CND back then. It is a matter of priorities, I guess. You can get desktops, even secondhand that are newer than 6 years and are 64 bit for a decent price.
What will folks do when Microsoft stops supporting whichever operating system that 6yr or older computer is running? It is the same thing right?
There is a current security alert for computers running Windows 7 and older -- they're advising people to upgrade their systems to at least Windows 8 if they can't go all the way to 10.
I've had no issues with my laptop -- I bought it in 2015 but it was actually a 2014 model so it was on sale; paid about $800 US before sales tax. The ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) series laptops are very good. Thinking of getting a new laptop this year but only because I'd like to find something a little lighterweight for when I travel with it -- like others I like to have my game with me for evening relaxation, and also while we're apartment hunting there's no space for a desktop setup. Even when we find a new place if I have no room for a desk I'll be playing at the kitchen table or something.
