GTW Suggestions and TipsI'm starting this thread so people can share tips about playing with the Get To Work expansion pack. Please don't use this thread to complain or ask for help (unless a tip isn't working for you), it's purely for those 'ah! That's handy, bet other people would like to know that' tips and ideas.As per a suggestion by Vondiita, I'll be collating them as we go. I won't add those that have been outdated by patches. Please be patient if I haven't updated a suggestion - I might not have had the time to do it yet.

Buying/Selling:>> Selling Science Stuff: If you want to go to Sixam, but don't want to reach the top of the science career or build a spaceship for each family you want to send - do either of those things once, then open a retail store and set for sale either the upgraded wormhole creator or the spaceship with wormhole installed. Other sims can then buy those and they will be fully functioning when they take them home.___________________________________________>> You can sell your alien collectables in a retail store.___________________________________________>> These are the things I've found that can't be sold in your store:RugsFishbowls (and live fish) ((I have a correction for this comment - if you use the buydebug cheat (bb.showhiddenobjects) you can sell fish on shelves. Once you've bought said fish, it can be transferred to a fishbowl and will be alive!))PlantersKitchen CountersIf you have chairs attached to a table, or something sitting on a table that's for sale, they'll go into inventory when you sell the table.___________________________________________>> If a kitchen table has a decorative item (like a bowl of fruit) already on it, the table cannot be set for sale.___________________________________________ >>If you set food for sale before putting it in the lice cold retail freezer your customers can purchase things from it without you having to ring them up. My Sim's teen daughter has saved her Mom's bacon quite a few times :)___________________________________________>> Retail store tip: if you don't want to hire employees & you don't care about perk points, you can wait for the customers to choose what they want and you can ring them up. No need to talk to all of the customers, usually a lot of them buy things anyway. Less work for you :)___________________________________________>> Managing a clothing store Ive learned that at the beginning you need to start low with a few objects and mannequins to sale, after gaining some experience and profit you can hire an employee and add more items to the store, that also depend on how many customers are visiting daily. Besides that the store has two shifts, one in the morning and another in the afternoon/night with at least 2 hours between them so the workers can rest. In addition I don't restock the sold items until the store is closed that way the outgoing costs would not be affected only the retail funds would.___________________________________________>> Building a mall tip- this isn't exactly a tip but from my experience, if you're going to have multiple floors in your mall, ensure there is always at least two family members helping out instore as we all know employees are useless and for some reason the time lag between ringing up one customer until they move to ring up another is really long!___________________________________________>> My tip is when you hire employees, they're not very good at first, but stick with them! Having a good personal relationship helps & if they're not doing their assigned task yet not slacking off, don't be afraid to criticize them.___________________________________________>> Not sure if this is helpful but I recently realized putting a computer in the store keeps my household sims 'in order'. I dont have employees (I dont see a need for them, I have 8 roommates..) They will automatically go back to the PC after ringing someone up, keeping them in the same area. So when a customer goes to that area, they can easily get to customer. Useful for stores with multiple levels, IMO.___________________________________________>> If you have a large/multi-level store and cannot find the customer you need to ring up, clicking on the sale pop-up will zoom you into the required sim.___________________________________________>> If you are tired of your customers and employees dancing to music instead of shopping and selling, sell your stereo and get the venue speaker that plays classical. You can still click on it to listen and raise Fun while doing other things in the store.___________________________________________>> With running a retail store, I've learned that being in a 'confident' emotion makes selling easier, as you get the option to 'close the deal'. Careers>> Detective Career: If you still have left over evidence but think the last case is over, you can still analyze it and still be able to put clues on the board even though you haven't been to a new crime scene yet. Some of it fails and some of it does give new clues.Seven clues are best to narrow down who the real suspect is on any case. Five is too general. Also, if you are unsure if two look a lot alike. Approach them with friendly interactions, click Get To Know, which will tell you the trait. And narrow it down even more, especially if one of your clues is a trait (which is learned most of the time by having more than five clues).ETA: It's much better to wait and ignore the put out an APB until you have six or seven clues instead of just five.___________________________________________>> In the medical career in order to finish the day task its best to just stick with one patient instead of trying to get all the patient front of the desk to their bed and do tests on them.. Sticking with one patient actually gives a diagnose at the end and its way faster than walking to the bed and desk for a thousand times :)Also it gives you a faster promotion if you go with them to work instead of letting them go alone. Eventually you need to go with them in order to finish the task and get your promotion.___________________________________________>> Doctor career- When you are sent on house calls, click on the receptionist desk to get the option to travel to where the house call is. When you're done treating all the patients, click on the floor or ground to get back to the hospital.Delivering at the hospital- Click on the receptionist's computer to "check into hospital." I fumbled around for a few sim minutes, wondering why my sim wasn't making her way to the surgery bed when I clicked on the receptionist's computer and saw the option.Science career- two of the tasks can be a little confusing. "Have coworker test serum" or something like that. "Friendly...test serum" only shows up for the normal serums in a sim's inventory. If you need to have a coworker test a tainted serum you will find the interaction under "Mischief...test serum."___________________________________________>> For detective: how to get things done without following daily tasksYour main goal is to get a new case - get the suspect - and close the case. The rest is not important. To get a promotion faster - just get a case and try to work on it for 2 days. For example on 1st day go to crime scene - take pictures, collect evidence, witness statements then come back to the police station and try to get 6 clues on your map. This should take 4-5 work hours. The rest of your day you can exercise, make friends, hang out. Even if your daily task will say to visit the crime scene once again - don't - it's waist of time - just make sure you have 2-3 witness statements, couple pictures, and 2-3 samples from the 1st crime scene - that should be enough to get 6 clues. 2nd day issue APB - arrest the suspect - interrogate him/her. Case is closed and you still have time to hang out at your work, chat with co-workers, and have fun. like that your sim can get promoted fast with less stress and without following daily tasks.___________________________________________>> For Doctors: If you're still clueless, what the illness could be, although you've already made all the possible tests, run tests (like x-ray) again and again. This should reduce the number of illnesses.___________________________________________>> For doctor career:The spots and stripes fade in and out. Thanks, I finally could get to see sixam :D I hated to build spaceships for all my familys... there are already too many skills, it's a bother building up a skill I wouldn't normally need for a certain sim.

I agree - I'm basically opening a retail lot for any skilled sim to sell their stuff so my other sims don't have to skill up :).

If you set food for sale before putting it in the lice cold retail freezer your customers can purchase things from it without you having to ring them up. It's an automatic sale and can happen even while you are ringing up other customers. :)

A few different space suits would have been nice, but at least the alien's can get over it with a bit of retail therapy ;)
