- Gabe_oz10 years agoRising VanguardWhile I absolutely LOVE the science career, aliens, and the objects in GTW (I'm a huge scifi nerd) I would definitely go with Get Together, though I found many of the features in GTW were executed well, I just didn't think that they choose the right careers (I would've rather had a fireman career instead of a detective or doctor). The new things Get Together adds (Cafes, Pubs, Windenburg, and Clubs) just completely blow it out of the water. It makes me really want to focus what The Sims is about, my Sims. It's the most fun iv'e had with an expansion since OFB in TS2.

It is so ironic that before Get Together released we said it would be the worst expansion pack ever and now we prefer it over Get To Work XD
Get To Work was great in idea, but they blew it on implementation because of the active careers relying on those idiotic task lists. I was tired and fed up with the task lists within a couple days of playing. It reminded me too much of the "to-do" missions for a RPG game. Since I was initially drawn to the Sims franchise for the open sandbox play, RPG features don't appeal to me. I've never tried the retail aspect because after reading other player's input on how it falls short of OFB, I just wasn't interested.
Get Together seems to be working much better for players because it goes back to offering what players want. Flexibility. Choices. It still has a long way to go, but I feel a small bit more hopeful about Sims 4 when I think about Get Together in comparison to Get To Work. Now I'm just waiting to see what more will come in 2016. I'm not as discouraged as I used to be, but neither am I really enthusiastic about this version. I'm more in a "wait and see" mode now.
Exactly why I hated Get To Work, I thought it was a SIMULATION GAME not a DO THIS AND DO THAT GAME!
I must say, though, it's so much fun when you do level up, your sim is doing something fun. And I'm really getting a kick out of the science career. It makes me laugh because I have full control over how my sim proceeds. My scientist is funny and does really terrible/funny things to his fellow scientists. Idk...you don't have to do it, but I think it's fun, too. Not much different than Sims 3 World Adventures when you traveled to the different countries. "pammiechick;14443158" wrote:

Thus, The Sims 3 World Adventures wasn't one of the best expansions. People wanted to travel and have fun (FAMILY GAMEPLAY FTW) they didn't want to feel they were playing an RPG game. Hence why they avoided that in The Sims 4 ;) (Outdoor Retreat)- nanashisims10 years agoNew AceGet to Work. I love the idea of active careers and hope Maxis does more with it.
I don't like the aliens and don't play the GP for this reason, but I assume when supernaturals come out or a mod will eventually disallow auto spawning of alien townies. I do not want aliens in my game unless I'm making a story around them for the science career. I've had my knowledge sims abducted in TS2 occasionally and it makes for a fun side story, but there are no aliens running around in my TS2 towns. I want the same for TS4... I'd prefer my knowledge sims to visit the Sixambar cloneplanet rather than find out the person they are dating is an alien
Get Together sounds like they are trying to patch the core game play. Nothing new... and it sucks that you have to pay to make the game fun. Won't even consider buying it until toddlers arrive and a decent generations game is released. "nanashi-sims;14443175" wrote:

Am I missing something? Because all expansion packs are basically pay to expand your gameplay (AKA fun)- pammiechick10 years agoLegend

True...but GTW is WAY better than World Adventures. Idk...I just am having fun with it. But yeah. Get Together is superior overall. :) - Cabelle186310 years agoSeasoned Ace

I think I understand what @nanashi-sims is getting at, because I feel much the same way. I don't think paying to make the game fun is the same as paying to expand gameplay.
It's like this for me. Sims 2 is like my favorite ice cream place, the one that has a multitude of toppings. The Sims 2 base game is the ice cream itself, delicious and enjoyable on its own. The stuff packs and expansion packs are my favorite toppings. They add to what is already enjoyable and enhance the fun. So in that case, I have no issues paying to expand my gameplay because the basic enjoyment is there to begin with.
The Sims 4 has been not as enjoyable for me. The base game was as if I received an ice cream with missing ingredients. It sort of tastes acceptable but at the same time the flavor is off and it detracts from the enjoyment. I feel like I'm still waiting for some of those ingredients. I want to enjoy the ice cream, but it just doesn't taste as good as it did before. Get To Work felt like it was advertised as a chocolate chip topping, but tastes more like poorly made carob chips to me (perhaps carob tastes better now, but when I first tried it 20+ years ago it was a huge disappointment). Get Together is a much tastier topping, but I'm still waiting on the missing ingredients in the ice cream for that fully enjoyable experience. Does that make sense?
I also wanted to point out that I don't mind having to do something to get my sims to advance in Get To Work, I just wish there was more freedom in our choices. Like instead of a boring list, a pool of activities that we can choose from. Like the Science career for example. If we could choose from socializing with coworkers one day, building the rocket the next, etc. and it all contributed to the performance that would be nice. It's the "check off the items on this list" that gets on my nerves. - I don't get all the hate Get to Work is getting. I feel like you guys are trying to hate on the pack, while I feel it was great. However, overall I have been enjoying what Get Together has a lot more.
In my opinion, I feel like both of these expansion packs are executed WAY better then the ones from the previous games, however they have kind of meh ideas. However, I feel like when they do old packs, they will be way better then their previous versions. - It depends on your play style - if you like family play, I'd go with Get Together. It adds a lot of interactions and makes going out on thee town a lot more fun with all of the cool new clubs, bars, cafes. Windenburg is gawgeous! The group part of it - eh, after a couple of days I was kind of over it. Too easy and doesn't add much to the play experience IMO.
If you like to play with a purpose, something to do or accomplish, tasks to complete - Get to Work is the expansion back for you. You go to work with the Sims and there is a bit of a challenge to some of the tasks - like diagnosing illness, investigating crimes, catching criminals, etc. NOTHING challenging at all about Get Together.
I like them both but there's my 2 cents. Happy Simming!
