Going back to vanilla?

I have stopped using cc and don't regret it at all. With a few DLC installed there is plenty of choice in CAS and build buy. When it comes to mods, it is a different story. I try to keep them to a minimum but there are a few I can't do without. (around 10 or 15 mods or so) The problem with mods is the frequent updates. I don't want to spend hours looking for mods.

But I think the upcoming patch will break the majority of mods. So I might restart and play vanilla for week or two to try out infants. I plan to go back to my modded game afterwards, but who knows. Maybe I will like the unmodded game. Or just do one mod (mccc) and get rid of the rest.

I don't play completely vanilla, but I generally play with just minimal mods (MCCC, Better Build Buy, TOOL and Better Exceptions).

If I do add other mods/CC in, I try to avoid doing so until I need them, and remove things I am not using any longer.

I also have vanilla saves that I use to test patch and pack content and to play while waiting for my main mods to update.

I could never play without a great deal of CC, because I both downloaded stuff for my royals and high nobility (stuff that don't exist at all in vanilla game like tiaras and sashes), and I created many cc painted portraits (larger than what can be done on the easel) to tell their story over several generations. I could probably get rid of 90% of the cc clothing and bb but I'd need to keep quite a lot.

Talking about mods is a different story. There are only 3 mods that I really need ; the UI Extension, the let go of white outlines when pointing on sims/objects, and the no-blur (I'm grown up enough to watch pixel skin and there's not much to see anyway, but the setting of a situation (say in a bat tub or breastfeeding) get's totally ruined when the sim is covered in pixels.) Only UI Extension breaks when game is patched, but the creator has always fixed it impressively quickly. I have a few more mods that I'm not sure are still working, so I could definitely do a Spring cleaning...

If I was to start a brand new save, I think it could b fun playing vanilla, though (including those 3 mods). When game was new there was a lack of alternatives in CAS and BB, but with most packs added, I'm pretty sure the game offers more than I would need anyway.

What little cc I've got I could do without, but I don't want to let go of my quality of life and annoyance removing mods. I also stopped updating my game after werewolves and so far haven't regreted that.

My advice would be to temporarily move your mods folder to the desktop and start a new save without mods/cc.

The only mod I use is one I am not allowed to mention here, and I could play wthout it. Never used CC. I agree that more mods just give more of a chance of the game breaking during an update

then again I was never heavy user I just had some gameplay mods and few cas and bb things
personally I find the game more fun vanilla because indeed no mod worries therefore less fearing for my save everytime theres update
also this challenges me to play with whole game instead of just playing with the small subset of favourite things over and over

then again I did have to start new save anyway since my old one was broken so I probably would recommend to time the switch to when you are looking to start new save cause it will make total mess of saves using the said cc and mods

or indeed just taking the mod folder and related saves out of your game folder
starting with new save and seeing if you like it or not

there have been times I have considered say adding cool witch hat to my game or adding certain gameplay mods
but ultimately I find that I would much rather keep my beloved save than those additional things

I have two mods that are essential: MCCC and Road to Fame. I do have other mods I employ. SimRealist SNB and SNB& Bills. With these two mods, my Sims (in the same household) can have separate bank accounts, which I need, since Erik Cantrell, my young Rock Star, Global Superstar, was a Teen when he hit the big time. This keeps his money from intermingling with the household money and for me to have to keep books on the side. LOL Without RTF, Erik wouldn't be a Rock Star, making albums and posing for magazine covers, as any Teen Idol does.

Yes, it's a pain to have to update them every single time we get a big patch. Trust me, I've had to restart my save countless times since March 2020. That's why I try to keep things to just these four mods. I do have some cc, (having recently pulled the majority out of my folder for another time). I'm just hoping I won't need some of the Toddler toys and such after the Patch and Grow Together is released.

Going back to vanilla is no longer an option for me. Not unless, EA gives us back a Singer Career, that is. I can hope, right?

I just have so much now that I’m just annoyed by everything and having to update everything. So I’m just wondering if I should start fresh and only add a few mods in. I love cc but I’m getting tired of it either being broken or seeing npcs wearing random stuff. There are only a few that come to mind for mods that I want to keep. I’m a little sad with deleting cc so that’s why I’m wondering if I’d regret it but at the same time it’s a pain. So I don’t know what to do?

I have a small amount of mods by active creators. Eye & skin defaults is pretty much the only CC I have.

My old Mods folder is on my external drive whenever I need it but I never do since I prefer to keep only what I use now.

Move your Mods folder to anywhere else outside of your S4 folder. Rename it for backup purposes. Take out what you want to keep. Keep your new Mods folder organized. You can turn off CC for random using Sims4Studio. Google how to organize and how to use Sims4Studio.

I can't imagine ever playing The Sims without CC. I have made the switch to using Maxis Match CC as much as possible versus alpha, but that's as close as I'm ever likely to get. Going vanilla isn't wrong, it's just not my thing.

Mods are another story. Far too many of them are there only to stop a game feature that is out of control, buggy, outright broken, or to add something that the game lacks. I had very few mods for TS3, but I've needed a lot for TS4. The big ones I have that add gameplay I don't mind, the devs can't possibly put every gameplay feature anybody could ever want into the game. There are far too many possibilities. What I wish I didn't need were the ones that stop the game from doing something that was coded in such a way that it goes way over the top or simply doesn't work.
