Has your Sim ever been invited to another Sim's party - birthday, whatever?

My sim got invited to Summer Holiday's birthday party last night. I decided to go and it was a big letdown. Summer was there and one other sim. No food was made, no cake was had and no decorations were up. I actually had my sim do programming on the computer for his work task.
I wish birthday parties at other sims houses had a buffet table of some kind, a cake and maybe the balloon decorations. It would at least make it feel like a birthday party!
