Have you ever had a cemetery?

I do this quite often with my various saves, usually in Forgotten Hollow.

I’ll create it as a park lot type and start by filling it with placeholder gravestones (using the debug graves, mixed in with the ones from buy mode). Then, every time a sim dies in that save, I’ll place the grave on that lot.

If you place a podium somewhere on the lot and have an urn in your inventory you actually get the interaction to “Give Eulogy” so you can host funerals.

Yes, I have one in Newcrest and one in Forgotten Hollow. No reason for two really, except I couldnt decide between two on the gallery so I plopped down both

Yes. I’ve had a couple different ones in different saves, all downloaded from the gallery. My favorites were ones that had plenty of space for gravestones; I didn’t want to worry about it filling up, as any sim that died was allowed to be delivered there.

One time I used a cute church/cemetery combo, but I had to knock back a fence and enlarge it, so I wouldn’t do that again. My current one is on Deadgrass Isle in Brindleton Bay. It’s currently a national park since that seemed less intrusive that a park, but I didn’t want it generic. I’ve been using terrain paint to designate the graves which looks nice. I may start adding more flowers and trinkets for special sims that pass.

Haven’t done the podium eulogy yet, but I don’t think I’ve had a death since I found out about it. I did put a wishing well on it. Any sim that delivers an urn to the cemetery is allowed to make a wish; that’s the only way I could keep myself from constantly making wishes.

I kind of want to but also I feel like they need to improve the ghosts so they don't leave my cemetery on their own when game goes culling so i have yet to try it out

I have one in FH. Forgotten Hollow Memorial Park. Its full of NPCs who have annoyed me.

Hihi, did you kill them the vanilla way, the MCCC way or the sacrificial way?

Vanilla way it is then! I guess that IS the safest one to avoid bugs on the family trees ;P

I was a fair bit ago and it wasn't public, but I did a basement crypt in Newcrest. All the families were related in some way or another, specifically with the neighborhood's founders growing up in that house. So I laid everyone to rest in that crypt. I think it looked pretty good, especially considering how early in 4's lifespan I built it.

If I were to design one now, I definitely would abuse lot traits. Actually, I think an empty haunted house residential lot would probably be my first choice for a cemetary or crypt. Always the spooky lot trait, but I'd add neighborhood specific stuff depending on the place. (Island spirits for Sulani or vampire nexus if I am pretending there is a vampiric takeover.) You could still visit a residential lot and the atmosphere would be pretty good. I tend to lean more into the creepy/gothic aesthetic.

I built the McDonough Family cemetery on the Villareal lot in Windenburg for my Drifters. There's one mausoleum for each generation. The first one you see there is a bit different/special because it's for my founder, Ella McDonough. All the others are exactly the same.

Kind of hard to see anything with those big trees there, but there's two GF ponds and a big fountain in the middle as you walk through the front gate. Lighted walkways to each row with benches for families to come, sit and remember their loved ones.

The inside of each mausoleum has two pedestals for the generation heir and their spouse, plus a rose in a vase between them. Little trinkets are left on or near the urns that were special to the Sim. for instance, that kitty toy was for House 2 Della's husband, Royce. He had the childish trait and that was his favorite toy.

What would I do different? Probably just build one big Mausoleum with sections for each generation and put more landscaping outside. I love the look of the little mausoleums, but the lot lags a bit and I think that might be why. I have no idea.

The only other cemetery I've had was a small one I downloaded from the Gallery for the star of my Homeless Elder challenge. After the challenge was complete, she opened a Retirement Home and adopted a child to be her heir. I needed somewhere to place my elder and the residents when they died.
