Oh man now I want a misc category now too... for aprons or special costumes.
I kind of think it's for smooth flow also in the gallery. Townies will spawn with standard hot and cold outfits .. what the game has decided are hot and cold anyway. We can override that with our choice which I love. So your sim can be comfortable in a bikini in the cold if you decide to make it so.
The idea that it could be used for future packs makes sense also. Maybe it's already used for Selvadorada when it releases.. it will be telling if it is. I imagine that is a hot place.
