Houses Becoming Unfurnished

Don't laugh, but this is the first time I've ever gotten as far as generation 3 in TS4. And now all the original townies are dying off.

I had set up my game with lots of sims distributed around the worlds to be there as friends and workmates of my legacy family but now they are dying amd all of the houses are becoming empty. Totally empty. No furniture available if I try to move a new family in.

Is that meant to happen? Why would the houses become empty of furniture just because the occupants died?

And where did their graves go?

And does anyone know what happens if I select the fill empty homes option in the game settings?
  • Houses become empty when the occupants move out or die. It's annoying but I think it's always been like that.

I don't think you can get the grave except if you were present when they passed away. Or you could use a mod.

"Fill empty homes" will fill the residential lots based on the number of bedrooms listed I believe. For example, if you save a house as having no bedrooms, I don't think anyone will move in it.

I am not a hundred percent sure of that so feel free to correct me! :)

I hated this aspect as well but I found a nifty trick that still works.

What you do is go into house/apartment via build with just yourself no sims.

Once you are there, it should show all the furniture that used to be there before it was empty.

If not, this may or may not work, but if so do this next step.

Place a chair down. Any chair, I usually use dinning room ones. You just need one just place it anywhere.

Then just go out of the build and back to the map, try moving your sims into that apartment/house again and it should give you the furnished option again. And when you go in with the family, it should have all the original furniture back.

Hope this weird trick works for you, as it does for me!

It doesn't even have to be a chair: you can place anything at all and the whole house will be fully furnished when new sims move in. It's a weird trick but awesome.

  • This is not adjustable via game settings and unfortunately how The Sims 4 is laid out. I suggest using MCCC to retain the neighborhood population and to keep it lively.

Neat! Thanks for letting me know! It is one of the best odd ball things in the game, no more worries on refurnishing empty houses/apartments!
  • I've never noticed that... i'm always going to the household manager and making my families have toddlers to ensure that there will be always a lot of sims from all ages. Just a few couples or friends or loneny sims get old without having children. But it's so rare (like 3 or 4 families out of all the worlds) that i never noticed this.
  • @calaprfy yes, I did have that with one family where I had previously played them. I think I kept them in the played status though...
