How Can Cars Function In Sims 4?

I don't see the point I having cars in sims 4 because of how the game operates. A lot of people want it but I don't think they really thought out how it would work in the worlds.
So would your sim gets into the car, it drives to the end of the street and then into a loading screen? But that's just a long animation you could skip with the phone. Or would you just walk to the car, get in and them go into a loading screen? I guess driving up and down the area you're trapped in would increase your fun need.
Would you buy a pack just for cars?
  • Yeah, I don;t really know how they would work in the Sims 4 but I'd love them! I dislike the way that areasaround lots are designed in TS4, where lots arent automatically on roads, or driveways have been 'designed' in the neighbourhood but arent actually part of the lot. In TS2 the car automatically reversed onto the road and then drove off into either a loading screen or it vanished at the end of the road - but it was still awesome. You couldnt necessarily see them driving around, but the depth it added to gameplay, for me, was huge. Sims used to be able to drive themselves to work, or you could drive your kids to school in the morning. Or they could sit in the car with a friend and listen to music, or woohoo. Or you could build your own car and fix it up. This was the most used activity I played in TS2, because I used to get by sim parents to buy a fixer upper for their child when it turned into a teen, and then the parent and the teen used to spend hours working on their car together. I just loved that as a parent child project. Plus, I mostly weirdly play male sims, and I love playing 'handy' male sims, who always had the tinkerer aspiration, and built cars all the time - I miss being able to do that SO much!!

I always kinda thought that cars in TS4 would just work like bikes, as in you would drive to the edge of the neighborhood and get to a loading screen. I pretty certain they're gonna add them at some point, maybe in a pack, maybe they patch them in, maybe both (as in releasing a pack about cars, but adding a few basic ones into the base game). After they added the whole "transportation" category in build mode I am pretty sure cars will come back at some point. I hope that since we don't have an open world, they atleast add an actual animation for sims to get into the car like it was in TS2.

Some lots, like the ones in Magnolia Promenade are designed as pedestrian only. Maybe they could design a new parking lot type for such neighbourhoods and sims will then need to walk to the desired lots, but I wouldn't mind if they get in the car and then the loading screen comes up.
  • I dunno. Watch the bicycle riders in game now.
Recall Sims 2, send a sim to drive and visit a friend.
Sim walks to vehicle, vehicle leaves, sim sits........BLINK!???

Horses for courses, if I want a vehicle sim, I use a vehicle sim, because they just work better as a dedicated sim.
  • I liked the fix the car in Sims2 or the sit and listen to the radio, never played 3 so no opinion there, but it would be nice to have the fix a car, traits and hobbies in 4. As for the fake car and garage on houses, I build real houses, using real floor plans; I'm not about to leave out a garage just because the game doesn't have "cars"...when you rent/buy a house do you ask them to demolish the garage because you don't own a car? smh This whole post is dumb. Why do we talk about things we have no control over?
  • I also agree that there are plenty of things you can do with a car. I like the idea of having it as a skill like it was previously, and I also liked how we could teach the teens to drive a car. In TS4 a drivers test could be something incorporated into the calendar feature for teenagers. A pass would depend on how much they were taught or how often they practiced. A fail would be if you didn't do it enough. A mechanic job would also be a really cool feature to incorporate or being able to start your own mechanic shop.
  • With how the game is built I could easily see it working like it did in the Sims 2.

Your Sim would get into the car in the driveway and start the car and back it up and drive away. They could go for drives. They could carpool, drive to community lot (complete with loading screen) woohoo in the car. Set the car alarm etc. With the FreeTime expansion there was the fix up car which was fun to build and customize and then you could either set that as your car or sell it. Multiple Sims could work on it at a time.

There could be lots of ways to introduce it into TS4 !
