Have you tried searching the gallery for the word or hashtag "starter". I find a lot that are affordable for sims. They might not match the style you are looking for though.
If you really want to build, I mean, youtube taught me a lot but what really taught me, was deconstructing houses. Use the Maxis homes in game already or download one. Start with taking the roof off, or bits of roof. Pull off columns. Highlight rooms and see the shapes. I learned more deconstructing than any tutorial. You really get to see how it all fits together (at your own speed), and it doesn't matter if you can't put it all back right away either. ;)
