Not I. This one has always confounded me.

If it's all played Sims, then you can go through them all to see what is influencing the "conversation emotion". Otherwise it's an enigma. ;)

I would guess if 1 Sim has +50 Sad, and lets say the other 3 Sims have +10 Happy each, then the +50 Sad overruns the cumulative +30 Happy.

They need to make the feature make sense and add responses for why npcs are feeling a certain way via conversation or either when you highlight the npc sim in the center panel.

Devs please make this a meaningful feature

A lot of times it's just a buff given to non played sims and there is no reason. I've checked buffs before using MCCC and it will sometimes say things like stressed event or sad event so, basically meaningless. However if they are uncomfortable you can almost guarantee it's either because they are over heating, cold, uncomfortably wet, or if they are very sad it's almost always because they are mourning. Although, they could also be stressed because they saw an unpleasant lamp or mailbox... like that makes any sense. :D

Yea I hope they make this buff actually a useful gameplay feature
  • I've been thinking for a long time that this would be a cool feature (or mod): "Ask about mood" and then there could be an answer in the form of a notification, or maybe a speech bubble with the image from one of the relevant moodlets.

If there is even a moodlet. I think that when sims first arrive on your lot their moods are random. At least at parties I've always noticed that people arrive in a mix of moods. There's always one or two Sad or Angry or Tense.

Fortunately if you have a mirror available to them they tend to gravitate to it to calm themselves down. In one of my games with minisprite, a sim had a bedroom closet with a big mirror that we nicknamed the "Closet of Affirmation" because of how often guests would go in there to settle down :D we put the "inspirational" poster from Cats & Dogs in there too for fun
  • most of the time i just invent reason myself but more often than not it makes sense after observing for a bit

i find uncomfortable is usually weather exercise( when at gym) or the sim is loner so the socialization itself is making them tense or then one of their needs is low
