I just got a new Android for the holidays and they said it would work on that? Hmmm...
Also, I really hope the abominable behavior of some wretched people in the community didn't discourage other developers from doing their own side projects. I love first person camera, and I'm seeing some people really happy about this Alexa project, too. It's kind of like having modders within the development team who are off doing their own thing...but in the end have the option to make their work official and polished. How is that in any way a bad thing? - mcrudd7 years agoLegendNo one in our family has Alexa, so I feel indifferent about it. We have Bigsby if that is ever an option ;)
- aprilrose077 years agoSeasoned AceDisappointed because for one, not every Sims 4 player has said device and for two, it has nothing to do with the actual game. It just should have been announced elsewhere.

Not to stray too far off topic or bring up negativity, but Kates tweets about the stream were intense. Were people truly that upset about a passion project? I caught a bit of the playback of the stream but not the whole thing, and didn’t watch the chat. Was the chat truly that awful? I just don’t get it.
It was that bad, yeah. I was there. There were death threats, people screaming that this was a waste of time and money, that they could be doing something more important, etc.
It was awful.
Seriously death threats over a video game? Over not getting some feature you want in a video game? Over the devs showing off something in a stream that they enjoyed rather then giving details about features in video game?
This community is the most entitled, ridiculous group on the planet. I think if a video game can drive you into such a fit of rage that you’re threatening people over it it’s probably time to find a different game.
I have absolutely no interest in this feature. I won’t use it. But it existing doesn’t hurt me or the game.
Oh trust me when I say that there are communities that are much, much worse. Death threats aren't even that surprising nowadays. People become borderline sociopathic behind a computer screen, especially when it comes to content creators. It doesn't even really matter what the content is. Like, I've seen this behavior towards people who write fanfiction, which is literally just a hobby that no one gets paid for.
There are people who feel entitled to content and, because they're so disconnected from the creators, it is easy for them to dehumanize the person actually giving them content. I'm sure that the people throwing around death threats see the developers as little more than Sims themselves.
Unfortunately you are right. Some people don't realize there are real persons behind the other screen. I find the sims community already nasty at times, not so much on this forum luckily. It's really sad things can go so far, it is just a game after all, it is supposed to be fun. "aprilrose;c-16909235" wrote:

It's a good thing it's not just aimed at Sims 4 players then. Nor is it for only people that have an Alexa.
I totally get people being disappointed because it's not something that they'll use and of course, it's always nice to get NEW features for the game, but I'm kind of baffled as to the responses - here and elsewhere - around this project that a dev was really interested in making.
There was never meant to be a patch in January, it's not like we've been starved for things in The Sims 4 in the last few months - Get Famous, Holiday update, Patch. If you like it, you like it, if you don't, you don't. I'm not sure why there are so many that are up in arms over this to the point where there's speculation as to what the devs could have or should have been working on instead of this.
I think the devs are damned if they do, damned if they don't with Maxis Monthlies. Unfortunately, I don't think people actually want communication with the Gurus, they simply want to know what what's coming next regarding paid or free content and patches in The Sims 4.
Perhaps we should go back to the days where we never heard from the Gurus and the next expansions were announced in the back of the current expansion.
Again, totally understand someone not liking something, but seriously this isn't that deep and some people are acting like this is the end of the world. Just my two p.- Doesn’t really affect me since I don’t have an Alexa.
- kirpiplays7 years agoSeasoned AceI only have a clue as to what it is (I'm generally not interested in that kind of technology), then again I don't know who Baby Ariel is either so I'm obvious not the target audience for this game :D
- I have an eco-bee. It controls the temp in my house and doubles as Alexa. It sits in my living room and is handy for playing music while making dinner for my kids. Even though I have it, not sure I’ll use it.
- Scobren7 years agoLegendI do have an Alexa because of my parents. As far as the Sims being on Alexa which is kind of weird to say, I'm indifferent towards it. I do think it could have been presented in 15 min max because 30 min on it did feel too long and most of the time in chat was spent with a really salty chat. I mean I get that people aren't happy with the product but these comments like lazy, people shouldn't be Gurus, and death threats are uncalled for, but I do see a lot of ignorance about the technology. I mean I grew up in the age of pagers and I remember people saying how useless smart phones were when they first came out too and now a lot of people have one. As far as using the product, I'll probably use the music portion of it mainly because generally I use it when I'm cooking or baking for timers. Also will be nice to use the music while cleaning too or on days I am feeling so ill I can't even play Sims or other games. I could see it being very useful for streamers too and actually seen a lot of streamers stream while using their Alexa device. Actually don't need an echo or a dot to use it since it works on mobile devices too as long as you have the app. Actually quite funny how a Disney movie Smart House was kind of a prediction of devices like Alexa except for not having the floor absorbers. So pretty much instead of talking to a phone, you can talk to a speaker to do the things your phone can do and Alexa is pretty much like Siri just owned by Amazon instead.
The December patch did bring the Lin-Z Smart Speaker into the Sims 4, so any further questions of what an Alexa is can just check out that object in the game. We also got two patches in December and I have noticed that even though some patches aren't announced doesn't mean that the Gurus aren't making a change to the game. There have been multiple times where I realize a bug I was having was fixed in between patch notes before. Sure I want things for the Sims 4, but if anything I learned from the game is even when updates come, keep expectations low because they tend to be a lot smaller in scale than previous iterations even though some of the objects are huge compared to the tiny neighborhoods. There have been some things like aliens, toddlers, and vampires that have exceeded expectations. But even if there was a patch in January made, I still think that people would be disappointed in not having CAS items for adult females again even though we have more than enough content for them except in the makeup and tattoo department. Would be nice to content for other Sims, other styles besides modern, more things for builders, more tools, NPCs, supernaturals, and a variety of colors for a change.
In short, yes I'm indifferent towards the Alexa Sims skill thing, but honestly less disappointed with this than another silly costume for a Sims to wear or YA/Adult female or modern furniture content only. At least this is an attempt at something different for the Sims community. - Scobren7 years agoLegend

It's ok I didn't know who she was either and still don't and it's ok some of the Gurus don't know her either. I have friends that are tweens and teens and never heard of her either, so I doubt it is even a target market thing. I mean as far as Youtube people Miranda Sings I've at least heard of, but pretty much anyone with lil or baby in their name tends to get forgotten anyway since those titles are so common since the 90s, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I guess it is the Sims 4 version of the Katy Perry collab? I do know who Millie Bobby Brown is because of the show Stranger Things which actually is a show that is relatable to a wider target audience. That's the downfall with the Sims 4 sadly is that it tries to be so hip and trendy, it doesn't always meet the mark with the target audience even and becomes dated fast. It is actually kind of cool as far as fashion a lot of 70s, 80s, and 90s things are coming back I've noticed and kind of neat seeing kids wear the same things I did as a kid.
Alexa thing is still fairly new since the Echo was released in June 23, 2015, so I doubt many people have it yet. It took years for the smartphone to get mainstream.
