How do you know if they are attracted??

The lack of spontaneity in romantic situations is one of my biggest gripes (apart from the bugs :( ) with sims 4. 2 had the attraction system, the lightning bolts and scope room. In 3 most of my sims eventually rolled a wish to have a first kiss with someone, the ones that didn't died single lol. The sim that I had planned on having a load of kids with wants to get with another man. Cool! But I guess you guys will have to do some adopting :).It gave the illusion that the sims had some sort of control over their own lives (yes I could over rule them if I wished but mostly I chose not to). It made every save that little bit different.

I'm probably gonna be jumped on for this but 4 just feels like I have too much control. Everything is scripted. My sims are slaves. They won't dare cast an admiring glance at another sim without my permission. But I'm a lenient control freak God, I turned on free will. Tell me who you like, what direction you want your life to go and (if it suits my game play) I'll do my best to make things work out well for you.

If you find an answer TheBuffster73 I'll be thrilled. It will make my game much more fun.

This! It bugs me a little too as I like having the sims "chose" their own partner and like doing what they wish most of the time but in TS4 it doesn't really work playing like that as the whims are really limited at the moment and not really related to aspirations or traits as much as emotion which every sim have the same of (obviously) :(

I actually made a thread about this a few days ago, in the ideas section about new whim ideas. Like one for going steady with a particular sim for example and not just only the whim for going steady with anyone whenever the sim is feeling flirty :)
Or a whim for having a first child and not only try for baby etc. I think the game itself would feel much more fleshed out with just some more whims and make the sims feel more like an individual. Hopefully it will get added to the more content they release.

There is no actual atraction system in TS4.

Sims simply get along eith each other better, friendly or romantically, it's the same, if they have matching traits.

On a side post, I deeply miss my sims wanting to have kids or woohoo with specific sims like in previous games. Whims are a bit general this time around.

The subtle coding is actually a random factor that gets applied to social interactions to make things more surprising for the player. I do not have a source for quotation ready, but that´s what I remember a developer telling a participant in the Sims Camp back before release.

I do feel like there must be some subtle coding too... My first sim was having a hard time hitting it off with the guy I made to go along with her, so I finally started trying to have her hit it off with another sim and things went much easier. I figure it probably has something to do with the traits or combination of them, but who knows.... Maybe they have the color of hair or something like that coded in. I do wish they would bring the attraction system back.

I have gotten the woohoo wish with a specific sim a few times but never the have kids with only try for baby, what did the whim say? Now I'm curious =O

I believe it has something to do with the whims and/or recommended things to say when you press on a sim that you are not controlling. If you are not familiar with this, I am sure you will be once I explain. It is when you are controlling a sim (just like regular) and when you click on another sim to interact with them. Before seeing the sections of things to say (like Mischeif or Friendly), there would be a couple of things to say that, I believe, the controlled sim would like to say (or do) to the selected sim. Like if your sim has met another sim and interacted with them for a bit, something would pop up in either the recommended list or the whims section informing to you that the sim you are controlling wants to flirt (or do something else romantic). Usually, in the sims, the game would not recommend your sim flirting with a sim the same gender (for some odd reason; I fully support the LGBTQ+ community). You would have to start that part on your own, but once the game learns that you are romantically interested in that sim, they would recommend more romantic interactions.

Now, onto whims. Whims are also things that your sims wants to do, usually based on the trait that your sim has. Say, if your sim is romantic, they would most likely be found wanting to flirt faster than other sims. If your sim is noncommittal, they would take a longer time to want to flirt with someone. If your sim is both, well, I guess your sim is successful at love, but doesn’t show it very often. So, if a whim pops up that has something to do with loving another sim that you are not related to in any way, there may be a big chance that your sim has is romantically interested in someone.
