How do you run a "survivor" challenge?

So, thanks to MCCC, the Villareale household currently looks like this:

They're all young adults, some are siblings, some are cousins, some I'm not sure how they're related but must be? I don't have time to play with them in my main save, but I saved them cause they look kinda fun and I was thinking of starting a new save with them, maybe with a kind of "battle for the estate" type thing. But I've never done anything like that, and I'm not entirely sure how I want to do it. So, i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Is there is pre-made, survivor style type challenge you like? I'm basically just looking for ideas while I set out a game plan, haha. Also, two of them are vampires--should I un-vampirize them for the challenges, so it's fair, or just let the chips fall where they may? And if I insert them into a new save, what should I do about the original Villareales, lol? Maybe I could have them all tragically die, or maybe they're forced to flee the country or something lol, hence the estate battle by distant cousins (who are actually descendants, but whatever)? Also, should I just make them all siblings for simplicity's sake? Or leave them in their little family "factions", as it were?

  • As far as the original Villareal family who is already in the game, I would leave them, and connect them in the family tree somewhere. You said a couple of them are vampires, maybe make one of them the sibling to the father of the original Villareal family. Just a thought.

Neat idea, but then I can't have them live on the lot? The household would be too big! Should I move the originals to live somewhere else?
  • Your title made me think of the TV show, Survivor. Divide them into tribes and have them compete for food and rewards. Is that what you had in mind? That would be neat ?
  • Do you have Jungle Adventure? One of my favorite "survivor" challenges to do in my gameplay is to bring a full household to Selvadorada, give them one day in town to get supplies and tents, and then get them rested and send them off through the jungle in search of a temple. I don't let them return to public bathrooms or go back to civilization until they've completed a temple run. I make them camp outside, eat at the fire, and pee in bushes. They have to deal with the bugs and dangers along the way and often get poisoned. They have to spend one overnight out in the wild jungle, and one overnight in the temple and they have to dig up any archaeology sites along the way. I usually give them turns in rotation for clearing through gates (if no one has a machete) and doing the temple riddles so they all risk getting hurt. When they have uncovered the temple treasure, they have to trek back through the jungle together and must wait for any poison antidotes until they return to town in Selvadorada. If you have vampires, you can make them have to travel only by night if they don't have sun resistance. But they will have to get to a tent before the sun comes up! >:)

It's a really fun challenge, very suspenseful, and more so with large households. You can always adjust the rules to fit your preference in making it more or less difficult. :)

I didn't mean have them all living on the same lot. The easiest way to connect the family tree between the two families is in edit world, merge just one of the sims with the other family, and using the cheat in CAS connect the family tree that way. Afterward, you can move the sim back to where ever you choose.

Hmm, I don't think I know that cheat. Can you walk me through the instructions?

@mikamakimon I actually like your tribes idea a lot...but I've never actually watched the show Survivor? Lol. Can you explain the rules a bit more, and some ideas of how it could be applied in game?

@LiELF I do have jungle adventure! And that sounds great, I'll definitely include that somewhere in the plan, lol. But in case not enough of them die there, I want to have some other ideas, haha.
  • The cheat is called

    cas.fulleditmode

Before you go into CAS, first, activate it, and then go into CAS. What it will then do is make CAS like it is when you are first creating a sim or household for the first time. Everything can then be done such as traits, family connection, and all the other stuff. Do this from Edit World section, this way you can easily move sims around by merging who you want.

Oh my gosh, don't get me started on Survivor, lol! It's actually a very interesting reality show. I haven't tried doing something like this for Sims (though I should now that you've given me the idea!) and I don't think I've come across anyone doing this type of challenge. In the game, the contestants are usually divided into two or three tribes, and with limited supplies, they must create their own shelter, find or catch food, etc. Aside from the survival elements, the tribes have to compete in challenges. The challenges vary and could test stamina, athletic abilities, puzzle-solving, or team work. The tribe that wins the challenge for that day could be rewarded with food, supplies, and advantages that could benefit them in some way. The losing tribe faces 'tribal council' and a member of the losing tribe is voted out and eliminated from the game. As the game progresses and the numbers dwindle, the remaining members 'merge' and the game suddenly becomes very cut-throat and it becomes every man for himself. What makes the show so interesting is seeing people from different walks of life come together and must somehow learn to work together as well as compete with each other. Some people excel in the physical or survival aspects of the game, while others excel at the social aspect of the game. Often times it is unpredictable who will make it to the end as the dynamics and relationships change whenever one contestant is eliminated from the game. The game keeps going until there are three contestants left and the eliminated contestants come back to vote for the most deserving of the three (or least hated!) and the winner is awarded a million dollars.

I like LiELF's suggestion of using Jungle Adventure. If I were to do this, I'd probably try and keep the sims in the jungle for a week. If you have eight sims competing, you can have them do one challenge a day so that means one sim will be eliminated each day. I'd send them off with very minimal supplies (maybe just supply each one with a tent, a machete, campfire). I probably wouldn't even provide food. They'd have to forage and fish for their meals instead. The tribe can only share what they have with members of their own tribe. They could mutiny of course, and that would add to the drama :) Also, I would turn off autonomy to prevent them from running off to the public washrooms or going back to their rental lot. Designate one lot in Selvadorada that would constantly be edited for the challenges and rewards. For rewards, I would definitely provide food and shower for the winning tribe - anything that would fill their needs. If you're feeling generous, you can add other rewards, like maybe those sprays to help with the bug attacks.

There's nothing in the sims right now that looks like any of the challenges in the show, so we'd have to get pretty creative. Just a few ideas:
    - Fishing: the tribe to catch the first three electric eels wins (and each day it could be a different fish). If it's an individual game, you can maybe check the cost/weight of the fish and the one with the least amount gets eliminated
    - Skills: have them all do the same activity, with the goal of maybe reaching level 2 or 3....last one to level up is eliminated. If it's an activity where something is produced (woodworking or painting) you can eliminate the one that produces poor quality or the item that's lowest in cost
    - I don't think there are too many objects right now where sims could work as a team, but you can make use of the objects we have now (fooseball table, basketball, hold chess tournaments). They aren't really suited for the jungle theme, but Survivor doesn't always stick to that either.
    - the temple will provide a good challenge arena, especially once you're down to a few sims
    - anyone who is poisoned can maybe be an automatic elimination - that might help speed things along in case the challenges get too long (in the game, anyone with injuries are normally sent home)
    - if ever there's a tie, you can have them do a fire making challenge

That's all I can think of right now. If you like the ideas for the challenges I can try and think up of more ideas :)
