How do you use chance cards?

How do you use your chance cards? I usually choose the answer that is NOT foul or confrontational. Sometimes I corelate with the Sim's traits. What do you do? How do you choose them?

I'm very aware of threads similar to these, but those are old threads. I want to see how others choose their career chance cards as of 2023!

  • I'm selfish lol. If one of the choices is to be promoted to highest level or early retirement I'll first check to see what the rewards my sim might lose are; if they're really good ones I'll choose the one that keeps my sim at their current level. If they're "meh" I'll take the promotion/retirement.

For other type chances it really depends on the situation. I've had one concerning updating an app; first time I chose to get it & got a performance increase, second time I chose to update I took a performance loss.
  • I role-play it.
Whatever choice I feel my sim would make, I go for and they live with the results.
  • I don't get chance cards anymore because of how I play the two active saves I have right now. When I did get them it was dependent on the sim in question and their personality. Now to explain why I no longer get chance cards. The two active saves I have are for SimLit stories I share here on the forums. In those saves I have lots setup to act as workplaces and I act out each sim's work day, active or rabbit hole, whenever I need them to be at work for the story. Every so often I use the money cheat to add some simoleons to their bank account to simulate a paycheck. If I don't need them to be at work as part of the storyline they are free to do whatever they want.
  • Generally, I act as the sim and choose as they would. However, I often just make them all go away - especially the Parenthood value ones - with mods. Career ones kind of make sense, as you really do have choices like that, but the Parenthood ones don't make much sense at all.
  • Usually I choose what my sim would choose (and many of them are foul and confrontational), regardless of consequences.

The Parenthood cards are an exception. Most of the time already have a good idea what my sim will be like as an adult, so I pick the reply that gives me the character value I need at the moment.
  • I'm a roleplayer too, like many of those who already replied :) it would be boring for me if all my sims handled this stuff the same way
  • I don't bother reading chance cards anymore, I just pick a random option and see what happens :D
