How do you work your story progression without mods?

On Console since they can't use mods; I play the main household for a bit until I want to progress the rest of the townies, so I turn off aging then begin progressing the rest of the townies aka breeding, getting married, drama, etc, once I am done with that I switch back to my main household then I turn aging back on for a bit till I feel the need to progress the townies again. :P

As for the PC version, I just use MCCC to do the dirty work for me. lol
