How does death by flies work?

I haven't even seen any flies you guys know where I can find some?

  • I let my trash bin outside pile up. I attracted flies and roaches. I haven't had them swarm and kill my sim yet though.

Once I though almost maybe but then the waste manager NPC showed up and just cleaned everything (without my asking) and charged my sim 50 bucks!

When a dumpster is full it has the 'bond with flies' option. This is the interaction to get a fly death. You may need to do it twice.

Seems to me if you bonded with the flies they wouldn't be so apt to kill you. But then again, I had a Sim well on her way to bonding with the bees, only part way through the process they stung her, instead. :open_mouth:

    I have a theory.
I've seen sims try to bond with them and trying to get them away and getting an angry moodlet with a warning. I think that when sim has that moodlet, if any interaction with flies end negatively, they'll die.
The problem is that if you interact with flies, they'll always go away. Thus if I want to test it out, I require two sims who are in love (dumpster woohoo is a great and fast way to generate trash piles to be thrown away), a lot with "Reduce and recycle" trait (which I can always put so it's no problem), and a room filled with dumpsters/trash cans.

I've tested that out and my conclusion is that it is a random death (a rare one).

I filled my lot with trash cans and had a couple dumster woohoo to generate trash piles. With Reduce and recycle trait the trash cans filled up. I had my sim interact with the flies that appeared on it, but even with the angry moodlet she survived. I tried it many times until I switched sims. Even he survived. Then I switched back to the original sim and had her interact with flies. Suddenly, she died.

There wasn't any death notification, but the death music reminded me of "Flight of the Bumblebee".

Sorry for bumping the thread, but I'll share new discoveries I've made. I've decided to test it out more to learn more about the death (for a video). After this experiment, I'm sure I've enough information about this bizarre death.

To get the death, only Recycle and Reduce lot trait is required. This means that this is the first death that requires a lot trait. When this lot trait is applied to a lot, trash cans and dumpsters outside the lot (if currently active) will also get flies and roaches.

There's a misconception that this death can only happen in neighborhoods with industrial eco footprint. It can happen in any eco footprint. It is a rare random death that can happen to sims who fail to clear or bond with flies that are over trash cans and dumpsters with trash.

There still isn't a death notification. What's interesting is that the death trait is called Death By Being Swarmed By Flies but the death interaction is called Death by Flies.

Ghosts are surrounded by flies (if you have Eco Lifestyle. I've equipped the trait before the expansion pack was out and there was no special effects on the ghost) and will try to swat them. I've also noticed that when there are flies over trash cans or dumpsters, they'll make it their first priority to clear them. Plus they will always have success with interactions with those flies and roaches.
