I'm not sure what the ideal number for me is, but I have 3 now.
I like it when they're close in age (like 5 toddlers is no problem for me because the family goes through that phase together and then it's finished). Now my sim kids are all different ages, which I don't really like, because it makes them feel less close as siblings.
