How many played sims do you have in your game?

How many played sims do you have in your game? I usually play in only one save game with different families, which makes my sims count very high. Which are the highest number you ever reached and which problems come with it?

As much I love to have many own sims in my world, as much I don't want to have so many NPC's. I delete them every few sim-days, but they spawn like weed. I finally want to get rid of them, do you have an idea

  • Main save, about 20 played sims, but most still single or just starting to have families. Will grow eventually

Unplayed..  I have heavily modded game so I see random townie very rarely, I have made my own townies, only enough assigned to each world I play to run venues correctly. About 50-60 maybe.  I don't play in all worlds.

I also have few premades I played at events, not not nearly all. Mostly as background sims, to my played sims have school buddies and such.

  •  I got 409 sims i have in my current save that i have picked from the gallery. I have no original sims left. And i regularly delete ugly townies, without making it uniform, i just dont apreciate and have no tolerence for bad taste. So all my lots are filled, no vacancy. Played sims count is from 60 to 150. I prefere under 30, i have one save i play only two households. So it varies alot depending on what i feel like playing. Right now im playing a save w a household of 1. My simself as a bachelor, but i play about 60 sims i.e. half a dozen households in rotation... this seems to be the rythm i feel more comfortable with.

  • In about 2017-2020 I had a save game with almost 1000 sims. it was ridiculous. Somehow it worked. (okay, I just created them and played maybe 1 sim day with them). With many more content and more bugs in 2025 I'm pretty sure the game will crash with more than maybe 300....

Haha, this is EXACTLY how I use to play. I also switch every in game Sunday and play and long lifespan. I will be in my second generation soon and currently looking for a new pc or gaming laptop. But if the game can't handle about a few hundred sims it's maybe pointless to spent more money on hardware.

Yes, I also hate this mismatching outfit problem. Especially when I have enough own sims in every life stage and ever career. As you can set a maximum of played sims, you should also be able to set a maximum of unplayed sims! Especially when sims 4 has already performance problems.

  • 76. I play rotationally and that is about 16 households right now. I used to have it set at 80 max but upped it to 150 although I have never gone over the 80 mark. Agree about the spawning. Everytime my sims go to a venue, instead of using the existing townies, it spawns more and I have to go delete them. I have so many unplayed sims now, I don't know why it won't use the existing ones.

  • One save with a family in every neighbourhood but i do play on long lifetimes so still on the first generations after approx 2000 hours .I switch between households every in game Sunday . Only thing i hate is how the game constantly spawns more and more townies with stupid mismatched outfits and freaking ugly usually , The game seriously needs to use the ones already in game before spawning more

  • I have one main save to play in and other stick to a couple of households varying in size. I only add and rarely delete so consider this my maximum.

My sims manager tells me 109 sims in my households but about half of them are just in there for safe keeping. I absolutely dispise sims culling and would turn it off if I could. Imagine one day suddenly having friends or family erased from existence. So somewhere around 50 sims I actually play or have played with.

  • For played Sim count, mine is down to about 275 or 280 ish. I had reached over 300 recently but decided I needed to whittle that down so I just went through and marked a bunch of the ones I don't really use much, unplayed.

My performance is still pretty good, though I have a pc system way above recommended specs that's fairly new. I was getting fewer Sims on community lots for a while so I think reducing the Sim count helped.

Since I have a lot of Sims (creating Sims is one of my favorite things to do) I try to keep everything else in moderation. Sim and house inventories are usually low, I use lots with good routing space and generally low on clutter for most, I try to use the bb.moveobjects cheat as sparingly as I can, I regularly clean out my screenshot folder, delete cache files at every patch and download, and minimize my mod use. MC Command is my only script mod, and I use no autonomous phone, no celebrity walk, and no situation outfits in the magic realm. I have no CC (though I really want to use some, it's just that CAS is so cluttered already.) I also go through the unplayed households and delete most random generated townies regularly.

I play with aging off, environmental eco effects off, naps off, life balance off, Ailments off and neighborhood stories off. I keep weather effects on, romance on, invites on, and all Occult related things on. I do play with cheats active most of the time. I also use the "Save As" feature once in a while and game repair, to refresh my game save. I mainly play one major ongoing save file, so I recently moved all my Sims to a new save file and had to replace all the lots and everything, which took a while.

I do not have For Rent, High School Years, Businesses and Hobbies, or Adventure Awaits, nor Parenthood, Dream Home Deco, Home Chef stuff pack, or several kits and I feel that my game runs pretty well, no major errors or crashes, but I do have some bugs. The one thing I probably really need to clean through is my library. I have way too many things saved there.

This game, as old as it is and with so many moving parts, does require a certain level of maintenance and balance or it gets overwhelmed. That's just how The Sims is though, it's always been this way.
