Is there a lore link between Ermelinda and Cordelia?

I already stated that Ermelinda Abrantes has become a favorite. When exploring her house in Verdemar, I tried looking for bits of her story.

First thing we all noticed is her pasion for the teal green color. Verdemar means the green sea, so this makes sense, but also ties Ermelinda to a history including the sea. On the wall behind her throne is a ship's steering wheel, underlining this. Was she sailing around in her younger years?

There are many details in this house pointing to a maritime story. The deco ship on the sitting room table is just one of them.

There is also the bust of Cornelia. I wonder why the Abrantes family has this statue? And what about the many paintings with a jazz motif, that was one of Princess Cordelia I's big interests?

There is also the painting created by Cordelia herself, "Land-Coral Garden". Such paintings are found in several builds of Ondarion, so it might not be unique for the Abrantes home, but still...

First I thought the Abrantes dynasty was at least a few generations old, but no.

According to Ermelinda's milestones it was founded by her, before the birth of her two children. So, let's say it's 30-50 years old? There is no milestone directing to a husband or marriage, meaning maybe Ermelinda was never married to her children's father. Or were there more than one man in her life? It feels like her ways are quite similar as the Thebe line. Hardly any father to all those Cordelia girls are known, either. Does the strong tie to the green, suggest that the Abrantes family had a central position in Verdemar, explaining the Thebe rivalry?

My main impression from checking out Ermelinda's house is that I get the feeling that a Cordelia could very well have lived in this house. They feel like two versions of one and the same... Do the two have more in common than we know? Could it even be that Ermelinda descends from a former Cordelia? A few generations back of course, or her son could not marry Cordelia V. Or was the Abrantes house simply designed with Cordelia in mind? Or is all this random?

Anyone else out there pondering about these things? :)

I wasn't but you make it so interesting. 😄

  • The nautical stuff is just from her being Verdemarian and living by the sea. The jazz stuff is likely connected to Cordelia, because Ermelinda doesn't have jazz as one of her musical interests.

My headcanon is that she's descended from one of the pirate exes of the original Cordelia. She may have developed a fascination with the Thebe lore beyond just being power-hungry, so her son marrying into the family had multiple bonuses for her. Maybe she even played up her fascination to ingratiate herself with the Thebe family.  It was only later that she realized that she couldn't control Cordelia V, - and that Cordelia V in general had bad vibes-  which is why Ermelinda hates her.

Love that view. Ermelinda with an obsession for the Thebes makes sense, although I wish this went further back, at least to one of her parents. Or wait, because Cordelia V is rather young - she was hardly bornn when the Abrantes house was founded, Ermelinda might have had the obsession towards either Cordelia IV or Cordelia III even. I like to think there ought to be something more here... :)

It's hard to know what was intended and what was random, by the builder of the Abrantes house. I basically find it weird that there is a bust of Cordelia I without being intentionally, as long as there is another house in this hood where this deco item feel 1000% more correct. Hm, I did not check whether the Cordelia bust actually exists inside Verdemar palace. Perhaps Ermelinda stole it, hehe :)

  • Realizing this topic was not on everyone's mind, LOL, but I made another finding in Ermelinda's home, so I'll just add a few more pics before allowing the thread to sink.

She is such an interesting character, I really need to understand a bit more regarding her past.

I keep having her research her family history, but so far theree is nothing. I suspect these tidbits would be a bit random anyway, but I hope she will make a discvery one day.

And here's my discovery that I missed when I sarted this trhread:

The speech podium in her throne room carries the Thebe emblem! Why on earth would it display the Seahorse unless 1. Ermelinda descends from the Thebe dynasty. 2. Cordelia lived in this house in he past. 3. Ermelinda chose the Thebe emblem because she is menatally sick and already thinks she (or her son) is head of the Thebe dynasty. 4. Any other reason why the Abrantes did not choose a general swatch for this podium?

She certainly keeps a few more secrets - did anyone discover them, or make some interesting backstory for their game? It's time to wake up and smell the champagne!

Your research topic is interesting to know. But I just saw this thread today (I may be too busy to check the forum at that time).  I thought that Ermelinda had a great character design that could make her one of the iconic Sims from this pack.

Her obsession with teal green is so strong in her outfit, but I didn't know that even her house has a lot of teal green and Thebe's elements! Seems that she has a backstory and lore hidden in her house and family line.

Did she have a unique NPC trait that allows us to ask her for her backstory, like premade Sims in previous packs? For example, Tartosa and Tomarang have lore hidden in each main local sim that you can learn more about them after having enough friendship.

I haven't played R&L gameplay yet, and not many reviews of this EP compared to the previous EP (for the reason we knew). I may check this after the playtest again. But they may not have those traits because I haven't seen people mention them. (And it would have missed an opportunity to input lore to them)

  • I still don't own the pack (I will be buying it in about two weeks time), but I absolutely love the lore behind this thread, I will definitely be looking it up once I am able to explore the pack a bit more.

  • I was very into the lore in previous incarnations of the game, but to me it seems like they completely dropped it in the Sims 4. Sure, they have added in a few tidbits here and there after the community have asked about it, but the right hand really don't know what the left hand is doing with this game, and now that Saudi and the a certain orange family is taking over this game, I'm sure there will be none of that.
