How old are sims...really?

I find it interesting that a lot of the guesses here end the adult stage at 55 and then jump to 65 for elder. My real life age is between those two, so what am I? o.O lol Anyway, I understand why it's perceived in this way though, I see that as well. The game does depict quite a jarring jump between these two age groups.

The jumps between baby to toddler to child to teen is too drastic in my opinion as well. The only transition that is somewhat realistic is teen to young adult to adult.

This is how I see the age groups as depicted in the game:

Babies - 0 to 3 mos. I'd say older, but they never leave the bassinets
Toddlers - 1 to 3 yrs. The average baby begins walking/toddling between 1 yr. to 18 mos.
Child - 8 to 12 yrs,
Teens - 16 to 19 yrs. IMO teens look way too old in this game to be 13-15 yrs. I do know some teens physically mature earlier though. The opposite is true as well. Some young adults look like teenagers well into their 20s. *shrugs*
Young Adult - 20 to 35 yrs.
Adult - 40 to 55 yrs.
Elder - 75 to ? Here in the US, people start getting 'Senior' discounts at age 62. I would've started this at 62, but that's not how the game makes elders look. They're MUCH older looking than that in my opinion.

Having said all that, I really don't have a big problem with the age group transitions. I'm having fun in my game despite the way it is now. It's too late at this point in my opinion to add anymore anyway. Mostly because I feel it would involve a complete overhaul of the game with all the different heights and animations that would be needed. I'm guessing this would take too much time and expense for a game this far into development.

If they were to attempt a major overhaul of any kind I'd much rather the focus was on improving emotions, adding memories, likes/dislikes, more traits, etc. to give our Sims better individualized personalities.

Actually Babies born over age 50 mothers has been a thing for decades - they are called change of life babies and not as unusable as one thinks - but it is usually more dangerous for some moms to go through. I believe that is why they include the 50's in child bearing years. I actually have an Uncle that is almost two years older than I am who is just as healthy as any baby and several of my older cousins (6 in fact are older than my youngest uncle on my moms side of the family. They were Southern farm people and that is quite usual in farm country or was in the USA anyway in big families.

Of course it is not just a thing of Southern farm families either seeing when I was a teen in Massachusetts where we also lived - I used to baby sit for two different families who also had perfectly healthy and bright change of life babies both born normally before doctor intervened to help moms have babies in their older life time - so it is a natural thing for decades. In US birth stats it states between 1997 - to 1999 there were around 500 healthy births to women in their 50's to their 60s even- so the numbers have actually increased with medical intervention as I believe naturally those numbers were not that high for both mom and infant to be healthy.

Personally I cannot imagine doing such a thing - but stats speak for themselves. LOL. I had all 3 of my babies before I was 24. That suited me just fine.

"Elder" 55 if that they don't play very old I have a hard time seeing them as elders beyond woohooing to much can kill them.

This game really needs to make elders feel older give us midlife for a older feeling adult and preteens to fill in the huge gap between children and fully grown adult sized teens.

As far as TS4 is concerned, I feel like toddlers in the game are around 3, children are around 8, teens are around 16, young adults anywhere from 18 to between 35 and 40, adults from 40 to 60 and then elders 60+.

My current main sim is a young adult and in my mind I picture him as being late 20s or early 30s.

I used to have a system but I stop correlating the age with real life age. Especially that I'm playing in short lifespan, meaning that they're aging up faster.

babies 0-11 months
toddlers 1-4 years
children 5-9 years
tweens 10-12 years
teens 13-16 years
independent teens 17-19 years
young adults 20-35 years
adults 36-64 years
elders 65 years and up

i guess it wouldn't hurt to add in a tweens group for the more "sophisticated" kids. tweens are less interested in toys or games, shifting their focus towards socializing. they can even date other tweens and teens who are age 14 or younger.

hmmm, my opinion has always been something like:
baby:0-6 months
toddlers:2-4
child:7-10
teen: 13- 17
young adult: 19ish - 30
adult: 35-60
elder: 60+
I feel that although a pre teen age would be good for actually having proper responsibilities and systems, it might be too complicated to have 8 different ages in the game. I tend not too think too much about it cause of the gaps but these are my general ideas.

I think
baby: 0-the months of they can walk
toddler: 2-3
child: 6-9
teen: 16-19(teens can drink in bar but youngers can't)
YA: 20-34
adult: 35-49
elder: 65+

I think the reason of EA doesn't add preteen(10-12) so far maybe this life stage is change very big and quickly IRL. But quinquagenarian may haven't problem, now the changing of adult to elder is too big
And IRL I also always seen teens have same or similar heights with theirs parents in China, include 1-7 years ago me(even many 80s or early 90are obvious taller than parents but the cause is lots of theirs parents were experienced hard period what foodstuff must buy with coupons) so I think teens height haven't problem. Now even most young teens(12-13) have same or similar heights with parents.

Todders: 2-4
Kids: 8-12
Teens: 13-18 (with a sharp cut-off at 18 owing to university-style content conditioning me that way.
Young Adults: 18-35
Adults: 35-65
Elders: 65+ (although they really do act older)

Curiously, that's around the age a kid will graduate primary school and go on to high school in the UK. The experience is very dramatic, but probably very different than it is across the Atlantic. A child who's 11 and in primary school, on top of the totem pole through age, is suddenly at the very bottom in High School, and faced with a host of new subjects. They also tend to emulate the teenagers around them, so talk about sex, smoking, drinking, drugs, all comes to the fore too.

Suppose TS background is America, I heard preteens can went to middleschool when 11-12 in many parts of America. In China mainland it's generally 12-13 and IRL I known youngest person went to middleschool is 11 but only her, now she's college graduated
