How to Evolve Plants Beyond Magnificent?

My ancestors weep as I ask this question aloud. Yes, the ancestors of my Sims passed. I have been playing the Sims franchise for quite literally ever, but I have been struggling with gardening in the Sims 4. How the hey do you evolve plants beyond Magnificent? I have gotten *close* to capping individual plants, but it never quite pushes up to the full bar. I've read through quite a bit of info, and all I've managed to learn is that there have been many makeovers to the gardening system.

I do have Seasons, as well as all the main expansions and most of the game and stuff packs (again, ancestors weeping).
At this point, I have sheltered all the plants, extended seasons to last a full 28 days (because even the sheltered plants seem to pause in evolution on the last day of the season), continuously fertilize everything with roses worth $54-61, tend the garden every day, harvest every day, and I even planted a bee box in the hopes that the rumored double fertilizer would give me the needed boost. However, it's currently winter, so they're dormant. My Sim has the Green Thumb perk, and my lot has the Great Soil perk.

Can anyone confirm that the current patch allows evolution beyond Magnificent? Is there any tactic that I am not doing, that you are doing, that allows your plants to exceed Magnificent? Or is there some game mechanic I am overlooking? Will pay real Simoleons for any leads.
  • Hmm. Yes, most of the plants change how they react to fertilizer after reaching the 2nd or 3rd status. They seem to level up over time instead of immediately, with each bar progressing slower. But like I said, it seems like I can't get plants on Magnificent to move to cap. Do you know about how much time it has taken for you to go from beginning Magnificent to evolving?
  • Okay, I finally got 1 plant to evolve to perfect! It was a holly plant, which is currently in season. So I'm wondering if sheltered plants will only evolve to Perfect if they are in season. They seem to evolve to Excellent and Magnificent just fine when they're sheltered but out of season.
