How To Get Rid Of Unwanted Sims

I don't know if this was a glitch or if there's something I'm not doing right. It was Winterfest and my sim called over some friends to hang out (not a party). Everything was going fine. Presents were opened, carols were sung, Father Winter stopped by. Eventually it started to get really late and my sim was very tired, but no one would leave! I clicked on all the guests but never saw a Goodbye option. I even tried to debug them with no results. I sent my sim to bed in hopes it would give a message to the others. Instead, the tired guests kept coming into my sim's bedroom and getting into her bed, which made her wake up and get out of the bed. I locked the bedroom door so my sim could get some sleep. The guests just ate all my food, bathed in my tub, and slept on the couch. I eventually had to have my sim wake up, lure everyone outside for a snowball fight, and then quickly lock the front door to keep them all out of my house. By this time it is morning and while a few of the guests did wander off, one elderly lady stayed around for another whole sim day.

I thought maybe this was a one time thing. The next sim week my sim invited some people to hang out and watch the big game on TV. Except for one lady who died of old age, the others would again not leave. Am I doing something wrong? Is my sim supposed to do something to get rid of guests who have overstayed their welcome?
